evga 7900gtx superclocked 690mhz/1.76ghz

just wondering.. caz i'm reading on the XFX equivalent (same overclocked speeds out of the box) that it is extremely unstable and locks up a lot during benchmarks.. and probably games as well

i have a lot more trust in evga than i do in xfx.. but still i'm a bit skeptical about the clock speeds with only air cooling.

i'm sure some people have gotten this card by now.. so could you all please post some reassurance or warning about your experience so far with the card?

thanks

if anyone's got one of these 690mhz 7900gtx cards.. I'd love some reassurance.. as I have a pending order on a evga card myself and i dont want to have to RMA it because they clocked it more than the card could handle

If its unstable (which I doubt it will be) and you dont want to send it back, just downclock it a bit.

wow, if it's proven true

xfx/evga will be in a world of pain 😛

most people who are upgrading to the gtx are going for the pre-overclocked version

Hehe, I just ordered one of these from NCIX too. Oh well, I will see what my XFX does when I get this tomorrow or the day after.

Hmmm... Dunno know about the pre-OC'ed ones, but I got 650/1600 spec eVGA, and it clocked 680/1750 easy, completely stable. Not worth the extra money to get the OC'ed GTX'es IMO, they aren't clocked that much higher than spec anyway. Now, the GT's are a different story... We're talking some really high clocks for the GT's, on the RAM especially.

Well for a bit more money my XFX Extreme at 690/1750 is running great.

3DMark2005 (1024x768)- 11356(690/1750) - Forceware 84.20
3DMark2006 (1280x1024)- 5563(690/1750) - Forceware 84.20

We'll see how far it can go clock-wise. Time to do some gaming to make sure it doesn't crash/artifact. 🙂

well my XFX 675/1700 artifacts. Strangely i did not see any artifacts in 3dmark05 but when i played battlefield 2, I saw weird spikes sticking out of the walls. Yeah so im one of the unlucky ppl who's card is unstable. Just sent it back to newegg for a refund.

Could just be BF2. I wouldnt test stability w/ BF2- Test it with a game that isnt known to have so many bugs.

it is not known to have graphical bugs. I think some of the oced 7900gtx have stability issues. Even the Inq said that 7900 gtx in sli is not stable above 650mhz core.

from the super duper credible GREAT INQ....

oh the irony 😉

everyone who's posted about problems with their OCed 7900gtx have bought the XFX version.. but I've yet to see anyone report artifacts or problems with the evga card.. which is what I was trying to find out since that's what I've ordered

so far so good it seems

i think most of what they say is true.

They are correct alot of times when it comes to rumors. But still, as I said above, testing in BF2 online w/64 players is NOT a good way to test the graphics card. You're testing the server just as much as your card. I might take my X1900XT and get 50FPS~ minimum, even at the same settings as you, yet you might get 25FPS~ minimum, because your server sucked and mine was perfect.

i think the inq's really bad
it seems as if they'll find anything just to get hits

so many times the great inq "confirmed with their sources" that the X1800 seris have 32 pipes

then it was the G71 having a monster 32 pipes which was also "confirmed by their sources"...

in essence, thier view changes from day to day as if they're just writing about crap

and in case anyone didn't notice, their grammar is pretty bad at times
they also have a lot of typos

i read from the evga forum that a few members are also having stability issue with their "superclocked" version of the gtx

Well, played BF2 for 4 straight hours, and its solid as a rock stable. The card never goes over 60C.
