they really think people will pay that much for that card when they could get the X1900XT for 450?

Nobody knows how well the 7900GTX will perform yet.

They're jsut trying to make a couple hundred $$$ off the first few suckers.

I wouldnt be surprised if people are preordering these cards at these high prices because they fear there wont be very many. Just like the 512 7800.

Who knows but I think we ought to be appreciative of ATI for selling the top end card for a nice 450, which isn't too terrible... I was worried about the trend after the 7800GTX OP (overpriced) and the 7800GTX 512 RFOP

I really hate the tough spot I'm in. It's probably not going to be worth it to upgrade to either 7900GTX or X1900XTX for me... but I want to upgrade soooo bad! I dont know why!?

lol, I'm in the same position. Although I want to upgrade just so I can move back to a single card.

I really dont mind SLI. I like the higher minimum FPS I'm getting. Single card dows have its perks though.

wait, so you don't like SLI? I only ask because I was going to build a machine w/ an SLI board. I know an SLI board doesn't require you to use SLI, but why spend the money if SLI is not worth it.

Yeah, people with Opteron 170's @ 2.7 GHz, 2GB of OCZ Platinum, and 7800GT SLI shouldn't be complaining. Yours truly is still running on a Pentium 4 3 GHz, and a Radeon 9600.

It has its little annoyances. VSync in D3D is apparently a problem (not for me though), some cant stand profiles (I like them) and SLI doesnt work right out of the box with older games (although you can create profiles and force SLI in any game either through the CP or nHancer). Heat can also be an issue if you dont have good airflow in the case. I have the regular GT CO HSF on the top card and an ACS NV5 on the bottom card. Bottom card idles about 35*C, but the top card is ~10*C hotter.

For me, the positives outweigh the negatives. My SLI experience has been great, I'd do it again if I can find as good a deal as I got on these GTs. Others dont share my experience though.

Yeah, I'm not really happy with it. I have posted my thoughts on it a few times around here and basically my problem is the vsync doesn't work in many games (the tearing seems to be much worse than on any single card I've seen), sometimes resulting in motion actually looking choppier than on a single card at the same settings. There are also some weird game compatibility problems that I haven't been able to resolve.

There are many others who are very satisfied with SLI though. If you're planning on buying an SLI setup, I would suggest you check it out in person if possible and make sure all the games you play fully work with it.

Although I doubt this new 7900GTX is going to be a worthwhile upgrade for me. From the rumors it looks like it will be at best equally fast as what I have now. I might buy one if I happen to find a good price on one, but will otherwise just wait it out until the next gen G80/R600 lineup. Hopefully at least one of those will be out sometime in the summer.

how the hell did the two cpu get get a minimum framerates of over 60?!

dude....a pair of x1900 xtx can't even get that high of a mark 186fps and 132fps are just unrealistic for an average either

no way in hell running at 1280 x 1204....it's more like 680 x 480....anandtech must've messed up there

and i get we need to rethink the gaming cpu crown again!

cause i don't wanna let my 7800 gt go wasted ($300)

i can step up to the 7900 gt paying only 50 dollars
then buy another for 350

going for xtx would cause me 550 - 200 (if i do sell my gt)
the total would be 350

now you see, i'm only paying 50 more buying a pair of 7900 gt which would most likely be a bit faster than one single xtx

That doesn't make any sense at all. You would have to count the original investment in the 7800gt, not just the 50 out of pocket for the step up.

When you step-up, you get full value at what you purchased the card for. So, if the 7900GT is $350, he could step-up for only $50 plus shipping b/c he'd get $300 as a credit towards the new card.
