Alright, I'm in the market in building a whole new machine from my old AGP setup....
I've been doing a lot of reading because I'm not sure whether to go ATI or nVidia this time around...

1. I've never gone ATI.
2. I read the eVGA 7900 GT has had sooo many problems with people RMA'ing 2-3 times .... most of the discussions stem since April, so I'm curious, is this still an ongoing issue? Has anyone recently purchased any 7900 GT and have had success in them..

certainly that has made me lean towards the 1900XT only because I hate dealing with RMA's hardware.

any info, feedback appreciated

thanks!

I've never had an issue with the exact card you are inquiring about. It gives me phenomenal performance gains over my x800xl. I'm talking like a +298% performance increase in 3dMarkm 06. You also have to remember that people tend only to write about the bad things that happened, no one usually says anything when they are happy.

So maybe, 90% of the feedback you read is negative, but those individuals may only account for 5-10% of all the card owners. I hope this makes sense.

i have 1 of the "new" eVGA 7900 GT's & so far it is working just dandy, w a Zalman VF700 cooler, no vgpu mods (yet), no OC on the ram..core is OC'd to 573 easily, will try higher when i have time to test & such...

do NOT get one of the "old" 7900 gt's unless you want to face the very real possibility of an endless RMA nightmare :(

I have a new model as well. Slapped a VF900 on it. Dropped from 49C idle to 39C idle. Didn't do much testing, just cranked it up to 550/1750, and so far, so good. Played hours of Oblivion, Q4, HL2, and various other games for less time. No crashy yet.

Looking at volt modding this baby since so many people have such great success with it.

Thing is as close to silent as it gets with the VF900 on it. Quite an upgrade from my 6800 GT. Did not expect it to be this much faster.

From what I have read the problem seems to have gone

If you have the money go for the X1900XT if not the 7900GT
