... was it the lifetime warranty or something?

Look at the Manufacturer SKU. One is listed as 256-P2-N515AX which has slightly slower speeds. The other one is listed as 256-P2-N517, which is clocked higher and comes with a copper heatsink. I'm also pretty sure that ZZF left the AX extension off the 517 model accidently, as the Manufacturer Product Specifications is a link to the 517AX.

Hope that helps. I haven't really seen any benchmarks comparing all of eVGA's cards against each other.

I have the 515AX and it overclocks to 500/1200 easily. Looking to add another depending on how good the family/Santa is to me for Christmas 🙂

So its just the stock clock speeds? In that case, I might pickup one of these cheaper ones and just overclock it. It is a pretty big price difference for a few MHz and a heatsink! Would probably end up putting my own cooling on it anyway.

It seems like all the different 7800GT has different clock speeds. I don't think their is any type of standards with clock speeds with these cards. Ive seen video cards that were lower than this card and ive seen some that were higher. I got this card for the $260ish deal from monarch. I recieved the card last night and really like it. Don't do what i did though and not plug in the extermal power cord cause it will still work but your frame rate will be HORRIBLE. I was getting a little over 1000 in 3dmark05. For some reason i didn't think PCI-E cards needed any external power because there was enough power on the PCI-E bus to take care of it but i was wrong. Anyways after i got it going i really liked the card. I overclocked it immediatly to 465/1.2Ghz with no problem at all using the coolbits registry hack for nvidia drivers. I haven't tried to take the card any further.
