eVGA 6800GT PCI-e - Automatically Lower Clock Frequencies?

Hey Guys...

Something wierd happenned this afternoon. My rig was on (I stepped away), and when I came back I saw a Nvidia pop-up box tell me that my video card was not getting the proper amount of "power", and in order to protect the GPU, it was going to lower the performance of teh card. When I looked at clock frequencies in Coolbits, Core went to 201 and Memory went to 0 Mhz.

Now, this is the first time I saw this message ever. Obviously, when I get a message like this, I automatically think PSU, but I have a PC Power & Cooling 510 Deluxe PSU, which is one of the better rated PSUs out there. IT is only 3 months old. I also re-checked to make sure the cabling did not get loose from the PSU to GPU.

I am currently using 71.25 drivers. Any thoughts?

Updated - I just checked Event Log and the following Error was detailed :

"Silent Running: HW clock slowdown due to missing Auxillary Power. "

Yes sir. Molex to PCI Express power slot on the GPU. Separate power line (not linked with fans or anything like that from PSU).

Use official drivers off Nvidia's site.

that shouldnt have anything to do with it, but try it.
how many times has it happened? none since then? it still works fine in games?

only time i ever saw that was when i forgot to plug in te molex afte doing some cleaning, scared the chit outta me.

i agree the drivers souldn't have anything to do with it. i have a molex that connects fan to a controller that is pissing me off. seems the slightest movement can disconnect it even tho its still plugged in. if i so much as shift it's position it kicks back in, been meaningto fix it, just rememberd when i saw this post.

you might want to make sure its good and tight and that the pins are making good contact. the female plug on minehas a pin or 2 pushed in i tink is why its givong me trouble. try jiggling it while you watch the fan.
