i did say i'd get one . . . with the x1700 around the corner, i'm not so sure. . . . iespecially since its PREorder . . . shipped mid-January.

A few questions . . . have we seen it benched yet? i know it is different from the PCIe version.

Is Pure Video "working"? and o/c'ing? . . . i'm sure the price will also drop while other etailers get them in.

And what about the 12 pipes? . . . someone claimed to have enabled the other 4 with a European version.

Meh... Would have bought one 1-2 months ago- too late esp. considering this card will have a 2 month lifespan at most- driver support and improvements geared towards this card?-not likely. Pass.

QFT, i bought a 6800gt (425/1100) instead, the 6800gs came a little to late(Jan. 16th):disgust:

Sadly, I agree. It's not even clocked as high as it's PCIe twin. :(

Maybe somebody will sell me an ultra for cheap

i wish they would clock that card a bit higher...and come out a lot sooner, then i would have bought one.

With only 350mhz on the core a 6800GT would destroy it. So not only is it more expensive than the PCI-E version, it's also much slower. What were they thinking?

well, they gave AGP users their card, but it was late and looks to be handicapped with the low clocks.

Nvidia's way of giving AGPers their card yet still trying to push everyone to PCI-E

well, a GT is still a lot more expensive than the GS. If you could at least unlock it to 16 pipes it'd match the GT exactly in performance.

...and now it's official... it's released stateside for a "reasonable" price.

Like I predicted, this is nothing more then a stock N40 set at GT speeds minus four pipes. No miracle claims of being 100MHz overclocked off-the-bat (somehow I knew that would be the case). I think we can put to rest the notion that the AGP GS (at stock speeds) is going to be a GT-killer... that is clearly NOT the case. Oh, and it's certainly no Ultra!

The million dollar question concerns unlocking those four pipes.

So PC Surgeon, you've been eager for this card for countless posts, have you ordered it already? Who's going to be the first to get this? Of course, the biggie is who's going to be able (or not able) to unlock those pipes and show us some pretty screen shots with proof!?!

If this card is $70 bucks less then a GT minus four-pipes FOREVER, I'd rather get the GT for the additional cost... if you can unlock the missing pipes, then this is a decent card for the price (but only if you can unlock the thing!).

So who's going to be the first to offer screen shots of an unlocked (if possible) AGP 6800GS?

Ouch... just noticed the disclaimer from Monarch... Shipping starts January 16th...

You skepticism is definitely warranted and as things stand at present it is a tough sell. I do have few observations nd opinions to add though, imagine that. :p

1. Pre-order pricing is often a bit high, clear out the suckers first?

2. eVGA is releasing it with the "stock" speeds, that doesn't mean XFX or another, won't offer up the higher speeds already touted.

I agree that the 4 pipes needs to be very high percentage proposition, and in the end this be a 6800GT thinly disguised@sub $200 price point i.e. $199 or less. Otherwise this is perfume on a pig IMHO.

We should all just come to terms that AGP on the mid-high and high-end is dead.
1. Higher cost AGP cards in the form of X800xl, 6600GT, 6800GT, x800xt/x850xt series still stand today
2. We get these crippled AGP cards like the 6800GS and are expected to shell out $200+ for them? This is nothing but a 6800nu with 1000mhz ram....oh wait Asus did that years ago (maybe that's why they said they are skipping 6800GS AGP :roll;)

still ain't sure of that yet . . . we know the game nVidia is playing . . . let's wait and see what ati's partners do with the r580s . . . obviously they aren't going to support r520 . . . i am hoping the midrange x1700xt will be identical performancewise in apg or pcie versions.

and AGP should cost a bit more as the bridge chip is a bit more expensive. . . . i just won't settle for purposefully crippled performance. ;)

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/asus_saph_review/

"Checking of the clockspeed shows that the card is again different from other non-ultra?s out there. Rather than the 325mhz core and 700mhz memory that we would normally expect the Asus V9999 Gamer Edition uses 350mhz core and 1000mhz memory. Quite a substantial difference."

"In reality the spec?s and design make the card a lot closer to the 6800 GT series than the 6800 series?other than having 12pipelines it is a GT. The other point of note in the design is the fan/heatsink. When powered on the card has a blue LED fan which lights up the unit. In a windowed case it looks excellent, especially with the blue PCB"

Asus V9999 GE=6800gs, i never knew this card existed.

ummm so does this one. And also this one has 256mb GDDR3. This is better than any 6800nu.

Does anyone know that for a FACT? We've heard from ONE person who said he could, but when asked, he offered no proof.

I think we need to see a little proof before we take it for the factual truth.

QFT, but i wouldn't be suprised if the card is capable of being soft modded to 16 pipes, since it using the NV40 core. just have to wait to see......

For all those AGP users out there, I hope the card can be modded to restore the 4 missing pipes. Then, you get a 6800GT for $215 bucks (which is what the GT should cost right now if you ask me).

Still, we don't know for sure, and have seen no proof... I wouldn't want to spend $215 bucks to be a guinea pig and be the first to test the theory. I'd like to know for sure what I'm buying before-hand.

I already have an AGP 6800GT and an AGP 6600GT in the house, so I'm not really in the market for one, but I'm curiously following the AGP 6800GS story for my fellow AGP users and friends. I'm anxiously awaiting the end-story myself on this card.
