EVGA 6800, can unlock pipes, can't overclock core when pipes unlocked?

I'm using RivaTuner v2.0 Release 15.5

I was able to unlock to 16 pipes and 6 vertex shaders via RivaTuner (checking the bit field/bit mask for the two HW Masked).

After doing that, when I try to overclock or underclock, the test says 'The driver failed to pass internal test with the clock frequencies you are about to set. Please decrease clock frequencies and try again'.

I tried Coolbits and used the built in nVidia tools and have the same problem.

When I don't unlock pipes and vertex shader, I'm able to overclock with RivaTuner.

EDIT:

I locked the pipe and left the vertex shader (12/1/6) and the core overclocks. I locked the vertex shader and unlocked the pipe (16/1/5) and the core doesn't overclock even though RivaTuner shows 400.

Here are my 3DMARK03 and 3DMARK05 scores:
12/1/5 (325/700) 8279/3471
16/1/6 (325/700) 9042/3882
16/1/6 (325/850) 9319
12/1/6 (400/850) 9842/4288

Does anyone think I can overclock the core with 16 pipes?

If not, should I leave it at 12/1/6 (400/850) since it has the highest 3DMARK scores or should I go to 16/1/6 (325/850)?

All the cards can be unlocked, however not all of them will work.
Just like the rest of us, just put the pipe to 12 but leave the shader @ 6.
It should work, as well as oc.

If not, sorry😉 Play Stock!

Qbackin,

I'm able to unlock to 16 pipes and 6 vertex shaders without any problems. I'm not able to overclock or underclock after unlocking though. Is it a RivaTuner issue?

*EDIT* Opps... just saw that you already tried Coolbits.

My guess is that it's a 6800 and not a 6800GT because some of the pipes didn't work. 😉

I get faster 3dMark scores by overclocking without unlocking pipe and vertex shader. Does that mean I should just overclock without unlocking?

Why am I unable to overclock with the pipe and vertex shader unlocked?

he IS using rivatuner 15.5

Grayson73: go to power user tab in rivatuner. under RivaTuner 2.0 RC 15.5 \ NVIDIA \ Overclocking, change the value of DisableInternalClockTest to 1. u should be able to oc without problems after clicking the 'test' button now

I disabled the clock test and am able to overclock now, but for some reason, the core is not overclocking.

I overclocked the core to 400mhz and it still shows 325mhz in 3DMARK03. The memory overclock to 850mhz is showing up in 3DMARK03 properly.

I tried to change the core to 340mhz and it still shows 325mhz. Any ideas?

It's a known issue. From what i remember it's the same with the 6800le, and what i remember is that you should first overclock the card and then unlock the pipelines on the overclocked card.

i think that might work. but if ur not scared, u can try voltmod until 1.4v

400/850 is awefully optimistic for an otherwise unmodded 6800...

my record 3dmark05 score to date is 4987, at 426 core, 809 mem. The higher i raise my mem above 809, the lower my 3dmark score 😕

look at my card in my sig.

yes it is, thats higher than my gt! but playing stock on a 6800nu is not bad! its still beats 95 percent of the cards out now. even the x800 sometimes. its only slower-downer is the 128 mb memoery- its so powerful that is not enough for the card.

Why would it be slower when the memory is overclocked even more?

I tried overclocking first and it was fine, auto optimization put it at 356/761 according to 3DMARK03

I then unlocked the pipes and now its at 325/761 according to 3DMARK03 🙁

Grayson, mine does the same thing, but I don't think it's really happening. If you look under the "Hardware Monitoring" tab in RivaTuner after running 3dmark, it'll show your core clocks go up to the 3d speeds and then back down after it's done.

find youre stable oc, then make sure you check the "apply these settings at startup" box. then unlock. i had the same problems with my oc (400/850) until i did that. sadly, the pipes would artifact, so i had to reverse. still a great card even without the 4 pipes, tho.

i tried this...the 16 pipes work fine, but the clock stays at 325 no matter what i do...
