I've been troubleshooting problems with random lockups and restarts recently, and was browsing the internet and found a few posts where owners complained of overheating issues with this card.

Now, I know that the heatsink is LOUD (at least comparatively to my system) but is that tiny heatsink inadequate at dissipating heat as well? I'm coming from a 6800 with an NV5 on it so it does look a little small to me, but if it's adequate then I'm not worried. If it is inadequate, does anyone have suggestions as to which aftermarket HSF will work for it? I'm not sure if the VF700 works for this card, have seen conflicting responses.

Also, on a side note, does anyone know how to enable the temp. monitor in the NVCP? evga decided to disable it for some reason :(

yeah, I'm working on getting a power supply to swap out to test that, I don't believe it's the vid card that's causing the lockups. I guess I was wondering which aftermarket HSF for this is more efficient and QUIETER. And if anyone knows how to enable the temp monitor in the Nvidia control panel, that'd be awesome.

The eVGA 6600GT AGP should be fine with the vf700, since it uses a separate HSI cooler. Some manufacturers had a combined heatsink that covered that as well and you had to buy a separate HSI cooler.

May be an issue with overlapping the edge, doubtful that it bothers many people.

I just got the same card for my wife, so I'm looking into the same things you are. They don't make the NV Silencer for 6600GT AGP. I'm going to install the Zalman once I figure out how/where to install an intake fan on her HP case. She's currently running with the side panel off.
