just built a new system:

2tb Seagate HD
120gb SSD
NZXT Phantom White Steel Case
Gigabyte p67 motherboard
850w raidmax psu
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz CPU
2gbx2 Patriot 1866 ram
GTX 570 video card
and of course a ZALMAN 110mm cpu cooler (im going to OC very soon)

Problem is that my display is a 40" Samsung LED 120hz TV. Now the tv manual sais max res for computer input is 1920x1080p. It currently displayed as this but i find that games (such as battlefield 2) and the steam program, have a flickering array of little red blinking lights only appearing in the black of the screen. The tv is only two months old and this is its first experience with gaming.

Also, on the back of my tv it has a DVI in, with a computer sound in right next to it, so i have what looks like an extended head phone wire with the two male connectors into my motherboard sound, to my tv, and the tv is set to pump the sound out to my 5.1 home theater system (i know its not surround but it still comes out of all speakers). The sound that comes out is super echo-y and i dont know how to adjust it :(

any ideas?!

You are using analog sound it sounds like which would sound pretty bad.
Do you have a home theatre system with a optical in connections?

Those flickering red lights sounds like a defective tv or just a low quality one in general. Do you get the lights when watching dark scenes in movies?

not at all! No red dots in movies or TV. This ONLY happens with the computer (on dvi source)

and yes it does have an optical sound out option...i just wasnt sure if i could get away with doing it the way i have now. do you think itll fix it? i know the chords are only about $10 or so from best buy

Optical would sound much better if you've got the correct equipment. Optical out from motherboard to optical in on a home theatre system. It would be true 5.1 too.

No idea about the flashing red lights? Your 570 might be artifacting?

yeah, i have optical audio out going to optical audio in on theater system. So without having to unplug stuff and get down behind the entertainment center every time i want sound out of my computer is a no go..lol

im hoping for a simpler solution, though it sounds like it might be near impossible

***update***turns out during the final stages of the build, my friend and i had a hell of a time downloading the latest official driver for the graphics card, turned out to be a beta thats on there. Im going to take it off this afternoon and try going after the latest, *official* driver and see if it helps...maybe itll give me a 110hz option for resolution now instead of this dumb 60hz. unless the tv is limited to 60hz

Try a different dvi cable if you can.
Skip that suggestion.

What are your results when using an HDMI cable?

What is the reasoning for using the optical out of the TV? Are you using an antenna?

But I digress. The optical out of the TV is feeding standard stereo into the amp. The amp is pumping all speakers...I'm going to assume it's set to auto-detect, and is using Dolby ProLogic. So you either need to switch the amp to 2-channel mode, or fiddle with the ProLogic settings to eliminate the "echo"...there is possibly a heavy delay settings for the rear speakers causing it.

Turns out...type in realtek HD deck in start menu...open the dock,.. set digital output (digital)sound effects to none..lol..sound is now set to none and not Bathtub..lol

but there is a new problem...running crysis 1 on high settings (changed registry setting so it runs at 60hz) i get what i can best describe as "flashing" in foliage now..very annoying. tried everything from TV setting to game mode, to motion detection to none and high, switching to DX9, and running older version of graphics drivers...still no fix..

changed dvi cable coming from vid card from DVI IN on tv to a regular HDMI 2..this fixed the red dots :D

any ideas?

This sounds like some tearing. Are v-sync and triple-buffering enabled?

from DVI to a regular HDMI port and found that at lower resolutions i can get a higher hz. for example sup com 2 i can get 75 hz at 1024 by 768 (7 hundred something). but i havent tried switching out the cable yet.

what brand should i go with? ive gotten RocketFish before through best buy and found them to be decent. any ideas?

also..i dont know if it matters, but all other games run just fine without any issues...including at this point Crysis 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2

Vsync is on...and Triple Buffering was set to "force on" so i turned it off and the glitching disappeared. This created a new problem though.

When i change controls...(for example: crouch set to a MB, and sprint to a MB) i apply the changes, and shortly after saving the changes..the game crashes....

flickering disappeared though. So i am just going to write the game off my list.. Crysis 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 work great so ill stick to them :D

yeah i was gonna say it might be a cable related issue.

if you still get flickering.. try to take a picture of it... then send it to tech support.

They might say the card has a failed shadder or a failed display port which is causing that..

And should RMA you right away.

youre talking about going through EVGA right? i could probably do that. It does it every once in a while in Battlefield bad company 2, the texture on the walls of buildings sometimes looks like its running water, just with the texture of the building.

im in the process of contacting support, theyre pretty hard to get a hold of. ill be calling them today.
No box or paperwork left from purchase with exception of newegg confirmations.

tripple buffering only works in opengl games unless you use Rivatuners D3D overrider to run it in dx games. Vsync should be application controlled

Then you need to install the driver for your monitor. If you can't find one use Rivatuners display wizard to create one for you
