EVGA 4X SLI Classified

Rubycon

Talk about a disappointment!
Where to start?
Well specimen one had its chipset cooler angled towards the PCI-E slots. Nothing appeared broken nor was the box damaged in any way! I thought for a minute that "behavior by design" is the culprit!

Upon examination of specimen number two I find the cooler is bent the other way towards the cpu socket! 😀 Ok this is no laughing matter now! Nothing a little elbow grease cannot fix but no, it should NOT be there!

Searching along the EVGA forums it would appear that this is fairly common...

Second thing is this board is rather picky about memory size. With the Venomous-X installed it will NOT see all the memory, PERIOD. With the Megahalems Shadow all memory is recognized. Is it a CPU socket pressure issue? Who knows!

This board DOES work with my EVO Galaxy 1250s where the X58 Classified 759s do NOT. During a lot of reboots I did get a raspberry (red light of death) from the PSU. I think that just needs to be sent back. 🙁

The cooling of the dual NF200 is cooler than the roasty solution that Asus includes on their P6T7 board. That's always good.

Now for the really bad - this thing is NOT a standard ATX board along BOTH planes. Most importantly it's too long! You can count all the cases that will fit this board on one hand with three fingers missing! I know they're not hiding this and it's even printed on the box but seriously! What's up with that? Asus' seven PCI-E 16X solution is a normal ATX sized board that will fit in all the chassis' out there...

Ok so this board is disappointing but perhaps not as bad as those room dividers err HD5970s. 😉

Perhaps it would have been! Wise! To do some! Research! Before purchasing! Perhaps! Yes, a bunch! of 762s! Had bent coolers due to packing! Should have been resolved though!

personally, I think eVga is overrated.

Couple of years ago they were fantastic. Post 680i not so much. I bet evga would do well in the AMD world but they are riding to town with the horse they are on.

Their warranty and support are still top notch. I had 7 680i boards fail on me and they took care of things in a timely manner each time. By the 4th board I wanted a new replacement but they always sent refurb.

Yes but so is most of the hardware IMO. The only ones I'd say deliver exactly what is expected, on time and with stability would be SuperMicro. Of course they don't overclock either. 😀

Who builds these boards Foxconn ?

I think they are the OEM from what I read.

Why all the hatin' on the 5970? 😕

It does not play solitaire any better than my GTX-285 2GB. Then again I should've known better since it also has 2GB. 😉

Please tell me, that this board is better in 'dissapointment' than the 760 A1

Never had a 760 to compare to.

EPoX does.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread. Perhaps add (rant) to the thread title.

Nothing really new as this board is months old and is aimed at enthusiasts/benchmarkers using LN2/DICE. The 762 does not provide any other substantial benefits (besides the extra PCI-E) than its smaller counterpart.

Ruby, you're a server fanatic. Shouldn't you be playing with this board instead? 😛

Since when is EPOX an OEM?

EVGA does not make a server product. Supermicro does and it's superb. It does not allow overclocking though and that's one thing I like to mess with.

The board does have dual NF200 like the P6T7 without the turbo throttle.

Oh after my links went dead I noticed Marvell Yukon for the NIC! 😀

Yay! No more crappy Realtek junk! Finally something done right! 😉

I agree about Supermicro. Their stuff always runs like a tank and is superbly engineered. They too however cannot get rid of the highpitched whining of 1U power supplies.

LOL yeah those 40mm screamers are going to be hard to tone down since they have to run so fast to move decent air!
