I never was a Detroit fan, but I use to love watching him play. The guy was amazing!

Barry is great but Walter Payton is also unbelievable. I don't know how you could really say which is better. But they are above the rest.

Consider yourself lucky. I don't wish it on anyone.

Funny you say that... Walter Payton declared Barry the best rb ever, and Barry declared Payton the best rb ever.

I'm a Jets fan so I don't think that I'm that lucky! :)

Yeah, some people even speculate that Barry retired early because he didn't want to break Payton's rushing record.

I remember hearing something, now I don't even have a clue about the truth in it, but didn't him and the Chiefs try to work a deal so that he could play for them?

I could only imagine what Barry would've done with an O line like the Chiefs have had for so long.

Well, according to some of the guys in the QB thread, Barry never won a ring. Therefore he sucks. Walter won a ring, but he didn't score a TD in the Super Bowl, so clearly he sucks, too.

I guess we have to go with Terrell Davis as the greatest ever...

what's so funny about that? He's on par with barry in every catergory (except yards per carry) and better than him on receiving.

That wasn't all Barry's fault. Believe me, I am a Lions fan and even I fault the orginization. The GM at the time had a god complex. He treated his players like sh!t, and basically used Barry as a barganing chip. He knew regardless of his supporting cast, Barry would put asses in seats and sell merchandise. He also knew that Lions fans, being the rubes that we are would be happy just being .500 with a playoff game every now and then.

Barry knew as long as he was playing for Detroit, this would continue. After watching his friends and teammates get screwed over for years, along with the losing he had enough. He knew the GM was more interested in personal vendettas and ticket sales than winning championships.

We were real close in 91'. We were 1 game out of the superbowl, losing to Washington who then went on to defeat the Bills. Thats when the dessimation of the team began.

Anyway, enough with boring nostalga.

Here is a link to his autobiography. It was a pretty good read. He goes over quite a few things that were never outed in the media.

did you ever watch barry play? If you did you wouldnt say LT compares. LT is a great running back... to be sure... in the same league as OJ or Gale Sayers... but he's no Barry Sanders.
