well, the moral is, what he did is wrong, but the punishment is out of bounds, he will probably be charged a much more realistic fine or something once its over.

A) I was considering asking my school's computer admin for permission to put it on their 60+ new P3 800's, but after that, no way. I don't need that sh!t riding on me 5 years down the road for a project of this uselessness. (yes, it helps anandtech in some unknown, mystical way, but for $400 grand and imprisonment, it aint worth it)

Pretender, I think it's ok to do it if you have a written permission from someone with authority. Just explain to them there's no harm or cost involved. Or do you appears to live in GA?

I didn't finish reading that thread that was in the DC forum, but last I checked the guy claimed to have permission to put the clients on. I'll wait until that case is settled and the facts are out until I decide to ask for permission, but the problem is the admin is setting up the ghost image for all the computers in the lab soon, so it's either now or wait a year for the next maintenence round (reconfiguring, ghosting, etc). Sorry guys
