go here and d/l mirc which is an irc client

next you have to goto the various servers, such as dalnet, undernet, efnet and so on

then you can do the '/list' command to bring up all the channels for the particular server and each channel has different commands and steps to get the files from them so i cant help u there.

if u want to search for files go use this site linky

other than that i cant really help much more.

as u can see its not really a simple process and you usually wait in a long que to get the files. but irc is the fastest way to get to releases and what not.

nOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo!!!!!!!!!!!! bots...more...full... j.k ive teached a lot of friends about irc. they become my irc monkey's. when something good comes out, they tell me what it is and where to find it. no more searching channels upon channels for meeeeeeeeeee!

I use Dr. Damn's spyware/adware free version of iMesh (130 build). I like it more than KaZaA because it uses less memory and it's not as flashy. It runs off the same network as KaZaA, Grokster, and Morpheus(not sure), which is FastTrack. Alright.

Kazaa is good if you want crappy 128k rips of singles. Newsgroups are where you can get 192k+ or VBR rips of full albums. Or so I hear, not that I would ever partake.

Nix that, I don't want to help someone pirate and steal music. It might seem "cool" to be screwing over the RIAA, but in reality you are really screwing over the artist. If their albums don't sell, then they get dropped by their label and won't be able to create music anymore for you to listen to.

Give me a break.

No matter how shitty their music is. No one has any right to steal it. If your going to steal music, don't bother defending what you did. Its illegal. I do download music illegaly, but do you see me running around going 'Look at me! I stole from the RIAA! w00t! I am so cool!"

yup, if your perfectly honest your just a thief. all thieves spend their time justifying their acts u know:)

Illegal != immoral. If the RIAA had enough sense to realize that the incredible wave of piracy is only a backlash to the general feeling of being exploited by rediculous CD prices and insane record label practices and maybe lowered their prices or at least made some sort of amends toward the general consumer, most people would realize that at $10 a CD (instead of $20) it's not worth their time to go searching Kazaa when they can just pick it up from the store (or online, which is taking the record labels way too long to roll out)

Incorrect. IRC is definately not the best/fastest way to get new stuff. The topsites (FTP servers) are the best. Everything that is new gets released there first and then slowly filters down. IRC is at the bottom of the pile, the only thing lower is Kazaa/winmx, etc.

actually, aol would be the lowest. :D and i would put newsgroups underneath irc also, because stuff on newsgroups i notice usually show up later than when they appear on irc. at least, thats in the case of music. but yeah, top sites is the top of the food chain.

to the general public, they dont have access to these ftp sites. so IRC would be the quickest. the ftp are very private and only certain groups have access to them.

And, Kazaa could make Britney or NCrap or any other bubble gummer get dropped, then please show me how to do it :)

I'm on crack because I'm honest about the fact that stealing is stealing, no matter what excuse you have.

All of us here have downloaded music. But for some reason most morons are under the impression that what they are doing is "fair" because they hate on the RIAA. Admitted no one likes the RIAA tactics, but you are STILL stealing.

I can't go take a car from a lot for a "test drive" cause I don't know if I like it or not. That would be grand theft auto. But I can go to the deal and ask for a test drive and It's perfectly legal. See the point here? You don't have permission to download those tracks. It's intellectual property. It's stealing any way you look at it.

MOST bands now have mp3's or some form of music on their website or at mp3.com. If you are only taking one song, you are still stealing/piracy. There is no excuse.

Atleast I'm honest in the fact that If i download a song, I'm being a thief. I don't need excuses and blame CD prices. Most of the people here are just cheapskates and downloading is free. They have no problem in buying a $200 video card that they really don't need, but they will take money out of the pockets of musicians by stealing their songs that they aren't willing to pay $15 to buy. Actually most CD's are cheaper online nowadays. Also if you wait a month or so you can generally pick up used CD's at stores for under $10.
