Nix that, I don't want to help someone pirate and steal music. It might seem "cool" to be screwing over the RIAA, but in reality you are really screwing over the artist. If their albums don't sell, then they get dropped by their label and won't be able to create music anymore for you to listen to.

"If the RIAA had enough sense to realize that the incredible wave of piracy is only a backlash to the general feeling of being exploited by rediculous CD prices "

The incredible wave of piracy happens because it's easy. There is no moral reason for it. It's plain old thievery.

Downloading copyrighted material is the exact moral equivalent of those soulless people that trashed the museum in Iraq. Anyone who actually can enjoy an artist's work knowing that they stole it from them, has a dead soul.

I only use soulseek for music. After audiogalaxy shut down, the hip-hop community moved to soulseek. I use overnet (w/sharereactor) for everything besides music.

Kazaa is great for mainstream music. But has almost none of the hip-hop i listen to. Overnet/Edonkey is the absolute best for games IMHO, they have every game the day it comes out, sometimes before, garanteed virus free.

Direct Connect. Most hubs on direct connect do not allow leaching so the speeds and queues are a lot better than what you'll find anywhere else (except newsgroups).

Look man, (read: [LikeLinus]) you're on crack. People buy albums if they like the artist. My friends and I own every damn Pink Floyd album there is (well, post Syd anyway). I wouldn't have a ripped Floyd album to save my life. But on the same hand, if I gotta buy the whole PearL jam album for one song, <^>'em. I"ll just use Kazaa, or whatever else. In the case of Pearl Jam, it wouldn't be hurting anyone be/c they've put out mostly crap forever now anyway ;)

And, Kazaa could make Britney or NCrap or any other bubble gummer get dropped, then please show me how to do it :)

I'm on crack because I'm honest about the fact that stealing is stealing, no matter what excuse you have.

All of us here have downloaded music. But for some reason most morons are under the impression that what they are doing is "fair" because they hate on the RIAA. Admitted no one likes the RIAA tactics, but you are STILL stealing.

I can't go take a car from a lot for a "test drive" cause I don't know if I like it or not. That would be grand theft auto. But I can go to the deal and ask for a test drive and It's perfectly legal. See the point here? You don't have permission to download those tracks. It's intellectual property. It's stealing any way you look at it.

MOST bands now have mp3's or some form of music on their website or at mp3.com. If you are only taking one song, you are still stealing/piracy. There is no excuse.

Atleast I'm honest in the fact that If i download a song, I'm being a thief. I don't need excuses and blame CD prices. Most of the people here are just cheapskates and downloading is free. They have no problem in buying a $200 video card that they really don't need, but they will take money out of the pockets of musicians by stealing their songs that they aren't willing to pay $15 to buy. Actually most CD's are cheaper online nowadays. Also if you wait a month or so you can generally pick up used CD's at stores for under $10.

I never said i wasn't being a thief. I said if I like the artist I support them by buying their cd, so your argument about them getting dropped (albeit, in my case) is invalid.

Souls are irrelevant.

My downloading habits have not altered my spending. I have oodles of mp3's, but I have also bought oodles of CDs. If anything, mp3s have saved me from buying a crappy album.

My attention (and money) has been diverted from crappy music CDs to DVDs.

"Souls are irrelevant."

Only if you don't have one. I'm not talking about the soul in a religious connotation, but as the part of a person that causes them to be upset when someone gets hurt or that makes them happy when they see a friend. It is that soul that can't help but be damaged if a person doesn't live their life in the way they think is conscionable.

And there isn't any ethical or logical justification for stealing the product of someone else's labor, that I agree with anyway.
