Everyone hates geese. Why do they stop for them?

I hate geese. My kids wanna go play with them and the geese have chased them. I have no tolerance for them. I have hit three geese recently. And haven't felt bad. I don't brake for them. Why do so many people...just to save their car?

I think in IL it is illegal to maliciously kill Canada geese.
Not attempting to avoid them could be argued to be malicious.

Well, there you go:
Canada geese, like all waterfowl, are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Illinois Wildlife Code. It is illegal to kill or remove geese or destroy nests or eggs without a permit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

My son still has a scar on his leg from when a goose bit him but I still wouldn't intentionally hit one.

Perhaps because when I was growing up they were nearly extinct and now that they have made a comeback I enjoy watching them. Also I have enough respect and empathy and tolerance to not kill things for no good reason.

You're title is funny and I kinda agree, because geese are fucking assholes...

people kind of look like assholes if they just plow into animals

but this. Hated animal or not, none of them deserve wanton murder. Every time I see a Starling, I want to stomp its useless, evil, invasive skull into the ground; but I don't because I'm not a monster. And man, if someone sees that shit, some things simply can't be undone. :D Besides, it's much more useful so sign up and participate in an organized Starling culling. Get your shooting and monsterism quota filled up.

:hmm: Actually, it looks like this doesn't happen anymore (maybe the influence of dumbass dilettante "animal rights" assholes?), but park rangers and wildlife societies, including the Audubon society, used to organize these hunts in the 70s and 80s. :\

I think they showed that those hunts really weren't effective long term - overall, they had zero effect on the population; the population rapidly reaches carrying capacity.

And when people see assholes doing something like killing a federally protected bird, some of them turn you in. All it would take is a video and a bored conservation officer, and you'll be fined pretty significantly, along with everyone reading in the paper that you're a jerk.

Our pug used to LOVE to chase geese out of our backyard. Until one day she chased a mom and dad with their baby geese in tow... that did not end well. Pups got bit on the tushie. Never chased after a goose after that.

I will say that I was driving the other day and one had been hit by a car. It was trying to lift itself up but couldn't. Got me in the feels. Don't like seeing animals suffer. Even if they are asshole animals.

You just need some of these so you don't have to directly hit them.

Fun fact: crows and ravens fall under the same law for some bizarre reason
