Every .jpg image I try to save in IE6 saves as a .jpe...

This is possibly the dumbest glitch I have ever seen... anyone else encounter this? Every damn thing I try to save, image wise, through IE 6.00.26 saves the file as a .jpe file rather than .jpg, rendering it unuseable. I'm assuming it's trying to save it as a full .jpeg file, and it cuts the g off the end... I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that didn't work. I'm running a p-3 550 with Win ME. If you need any other specs, let me know.

Hopefully, as always, someone will have the answer to this. Thanks!

Edited to add- I've tried changing the file at the save dialogue box, and that doesn't work either. I've been playing with this for an hour...

Well it's not unusable, you can still change the extension back to .jpg, or you can change it while saving. IE does that sometimes though, I've seen it happen, just need to change the extension, or try to open it and set a program to open it so it's exactly like a .jpg.

tried that. it creates a file with (filename).jpg.jpe. Like I said, this is the weirdest thing I've ever seen...

When you save it, put the little pulldown menu underneath (which should read JPE files) to "All files". Then save it as a .jpg
If it's on JPE files then it will automatically add the JPE extension.

I fixed it. Well, I didn't, but the IE6 restoration tool did. Apparently the file extensions list was corrupted...all I did was run the utility and it fixed it, an oversight on my part, as I should have done that in the beginning....

it's good to hear that you got the problem resolved...

but for your future reference...
if you are changing abc.jpe and you end up getting abc.jpg.jpe

then you are not seeing all file extensions.

open up a folder and to to view-option.
and make sure "hide the extensions for known file types" is not checked.

then you should see all file extensions... and be able to change all extensions.
