Just in the news today. The goverment and technological research center have lauched a joint venture to have 1Gb network (up/down) in every household in Finland by 2010.
Program started officially in july, by researching if this was possible and what the cost would be. Goverment is investing ? 250Mil. and technological research center ?100Ml. over next 2- 2,5 years time, after which they re-evaluate the program.

Sorry guys, I only have a Finnish link at the moment From Finnish IT-Weekly.

I can't wait, I hope they start from my area :p I only live 800 meters from the main network line, and there is a POP very close to me...

Hyvä Suomi!

There has been some activity on the governments part in making broadband more affordable and it has been very succesful but I had no idea that this was under way. Not that Im complaining...

Well, the 1Gb is the theoretical speed. Actual download speeds will be 80-120MB/sec.
