Because people should know what they are buying. You don't go to a honda dealer, buy a base civic, and then complain that it doesnt have 1000hp.


With cpus, as long as it isn't doa (or TLB bug, etc), then it pretty much warrants 5 stars. If you complain about performance, then you are basically raising your hand saying "I didn't do my research and am ignorant".

Well it all depends on everyone's personal scale. To me 5 stars (eggs) means the CPU has to perform above what is expected. If I buy a k series processor and it overclocks to the moon, it gets 5 stars. If it gets a mediocre overclock and runs hot unless delidded, it gets something less than 5 eggs.
 
Processors either work or they dont. If any company had more than a 1% defective rate they would soon close up. Other than user error they should be pretty score perfect. You cant complain if you r chip does not overclock well. You buy it at the advertized rate and if you get more great. If not be happy that your specific mustang runs the 1/4 as fast as advertized.
 
Well, I can complain actually and I would complain. A k series is sold for the purpose of overclocking over a non k. If you're buying a processor and one overclocked better than another, you'd want the user reviews to reflect that so you make an informed buying decision.

There's a reason you're able to review them and score them on a scale of 1-5 vs a simple "did it work" yes or no checkbox which is all you should have based on what you're saying.
 
Newegg reviews can generally only be used to compare reliability between products. That's not a bad thing of course, but I wouldn't judge a product completely based on their Newegg reviews. For instance, it's impossible to know how two "5 eggers" compare in performance.
 
People don't normally post detailed explanations of computational loss due to FDIV errata of their Pentium 60MHz in the comment section of NewEgg.
 
Newegg comments do have their uses, but seriously, who would ever think they could be used to rate the absolute performance of a CPU. It would be absurd to think so. Rather they should be used to detect patterns, lots of DOAs, lots of some part not fitting or breaking off, etc. CPUs just don't tend to have problems like that.
