Everquest or Asheron's Call?

I've played Asheron's Call during beta and also for a few months when it came out. I played on Darktide, a PK server.
I had fun but eventually grew tired of it.
My question is, is Everquest any better than AC?
How come (it seems) that more people are hooked on EQ rather than AC ? If there are any EQ or ex-EQ players could you explain what is so addicting about it (as opposed to AC)?
I'm curious on what makes this game very popular and am thinking of trying it out.
 
I've played both games (EQ for around a year, AC for around 3 months), and I prefered EQ for a couple reasons:

1) Party based - You are forced to join up with people (for the most part), it also has a more tactical feel.

2) Uber characters - There really are none in EQ, you only have to choose the right skills to have one in AC. There's nothing worse than seeing a warrior casting high level spells (IMO). This point also ties back into point 1.

3) Monsters - What the hell is a Drudge anyway? I guess I just dig the High Fantasy setting in EQ.

4) Spells - The spell system in AC sucks compared to EQ.

Those points considered I did like the continuous terrain in AC, but I felt the locations in EQ generally had more character to them.
 
I've been playing EQ for close to 2 years and recently installed AC after seeing it at CompUSA for $10 after MIR. Let's just say I spent more time downloading the patches than I did actually playing the game before I uninstalled it. Wasn't even worth my $10!
 
I've played EQ since beta and still play it. After a while you will learn it's really quite one dimentional,kill,get killed,over and over. It's wierd,I'm kinda bored with it but I still keep going back. I think it's becouse of the world it's self. I see things that just amazed me to this day. Just great eye and ear candy. At the moment it's the best one out right now IMHO. AC did nothing for me at all...
 
EQ - If you haven't tried the pvp teams server, do it. They are the true Roleplaying servers, good vs evil. Nothing like storming the lighties with trolls, ogres and iksar!!!
