"After more than four years in development, the wait for EverQuest II is almost over," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "We've invested heavily on development of the game to ensure that EverQuest II has the highest production values of any online game produced to date. We want to deliver a game to our players that will provide an experience like nothing they've ever seen."

Ok so, they moved the date foward a little, eh? This happens so rarely in this industry, but I guess if you were up against Blizzards 800 pound gorilla, you'd do the same.

Is anyone in the beta? How is it?

Good point. But I think, if anything, this will delay Open Beta further. They'll want to release it one week max before EQII comes out to steal the buzz.

I just started the beta. while the graphics and interface is well done, it seems the content is lacking. They just added a faction system and are changing class changing at higher levels. How can they release it when they are just adding such important things?

I never buy MMOs in the 1st month so any speculation on content or existing bugs/imminent changes is irrevelant to me

Hey good news on the ship date though! I wasn't expecting to play EQ2 before Christmas really...

Which would be next week. I would hope for this week but it's better than one week before WoW goes retail anyhow.
I will try Wow(hopefully less time sinkish), EQ2 I don't think so since there's no PvP right now.

Time sinkish is the whole point of MMOs. No end and plenty of ways to spend your time...or sink it.

Good god... november is going to be the greatest video/computer game month in history. Half life 2, halo 2, WOW, EQ 2... I'm sure I'm forgetting 3 or 4 good ones...

All I know is I preordered WoW a month ago, but when they decided to 'delay' the open beta, I ordered EQ2 and might play that, I'm not picky, its a race for which I can play first here.

Camping a rare mob for 30 hours is ridiculous.
An MMO game does not need to require massive amounts of time to accomplish something.

Guess they want to grab people before they realize WoW is much better in it's Open Beta and later... I've played both.

EDIT: When I played the WoW stress test some time ago it was further along than EQII, but could've used some more work. Hopefully it is at least really close to finished when it is released...

Yeah sorry, guess time sink can be interpreted many different ways.
I need a game that I can play for an hour and walk away, I just can't do that with EQ anymore. I box'd eq with multiple accounts for this reason so I would never be LFG and got quite a bit done in short time spans. I'm hoping that WoW will do this or I'll just stick with CS source and CoD United Offensive.

Beginning to think EQ was a totally different game if every time you logged in you had someone to play with. We never had any of the problems most WoW-ites are talking about here. I can see how this would be frustrating, we just didn't play the same way or something 😕

To clarify, we certainly rarely played EQ for 1hr and walked. We might say that before we'd start, but 2 was more or less the minimum. But that suited our playstyle just fine. Having said this, if we had less than an hour to play that was enforced, like, say, we were going out somewhere, playing was not an issue. We'd jump in, kill some stuff or craft or run somewhere then log out.

I hear ya, I can't say I won't box again. I like being in control of being able to stop and go at my own pace, the idea of leveling up characters from fresh is not intriquing but in the right enviornment it could be.

Anyone gone on a Raid in WoW? What was it like?

Maybe in designing EQ2 primarily to attract those who didn't make it to the high end game they (un?)intentionally put off the majority of those who did.

That date doesn't sound too realistic. It's beta2 and there are still quite a number of bugs. They did just open a third server over the weekend, so I guess they're ramping up for open beta. I think they should wait to release, personally.

It is suprising but if you think about it SOE is known for releasing products albeit not quite finished. Hope for the best.
I don't mean that as a knock against SOE, just an observation.
This had to be a business decision, least it sure looks like it.

The WoW beta is going pretty well, we're going to get our first raid dungeon in the next update (next week or so).
Still not in EQ2 beta, maybe someone will invite me? 😉
