Installed XP on mine and am posting from it now... Decent specs but a great form factor! Also better screen resolution with the XP video driver...

IMHO The only thing you have to be ready for is to choose a new OS... gOS was okay but ubuntu and XP put it to shame. All the reviews I have read love the form factor, love the hardware, hate the OS... No way are you better off with an ee and only 8gb of flash... The 30gb HD is the way to go and the cloudbook has it!

The only thing bad about it is the touchpad, it needs a real touchpad or the nipple from ibm thinkpads. Modding in a real touchpad probably wouldn't be that hard.

I'd stay away from Everex. About a year and 2 months after I bought a pair of their XT5000T notebooks both died. They won't honor the warranty even on good faith, despite it being a known and common problem.

Everex blows.

I get about 4 hours of battery life surfing the web and emailing...

Not sure what's up with the resolution but in gOS it is 800x600 and windows gets up to 1024x800... Maybe it is just my linux ignorance?!?!

hmmm... its stated that the Cloudbook's native gOS resolution was 800x480 (widescreen). sounds like the resolution was hardcoded in.
so if the reports that there's a bigger resolution on running XP or a different variant of linux, while still maintaining a widescreen aspect ratio,
it should be either 1024x600 (likely) or 1280x800 (hopeful, but doubtful)

its a 7" screen, so its probably 1024x600 just like all the other 7" laptops.

Yeah the Dell E @ 299 will include only 8GB of flash HD... This precludes the installation of Windows XP which was a big factor for me... The Cloudbook can handle XP out of the box... Also just bought this bluetooth adaptor for $8:

That looks KILLER, I'd have to imagine it will be $1000+ but man if this comes out and is somehow not expensive, like Sub $500 I will buy one

I've really been thinking about getting this and putting xp on it right away. I talked with tech support at everex after reading that installing XP voids the warranty and was just told that any support work would have to be done after the original OS was reinstalled.
I found this after doing some research and it seems to be the exact same, just rebadged by Sylvania:
Tigerdirect
Has much more detailed pics than any of the other sites I browsed as well as a basic video demo.
Seems pretty decent considering it comes with 1gig of ram and that upgrading it would likely lead to warranty invalidation, again according to everex tech support. If you don't have a Tigerdirect in your state you shouldn't have to pay any taxes on it, but shipping for me was estimated at ~$14. You can buy it from Tigerdirect through Amazon for only $8.49 shipping.
Only downside for me is that you don't get the easy return option from buying it through Walmart.

EDIT: Looks like the touchpad on the Sylvania version is on the bottom center, the traditional location as opposed to the upper right corner like the Cloudbook.

Yeah the touchpad will be a preference thing, but you have to remember how small this thing is... A lot of the time I find myself holding it with two hands and the touchpad is in a great spot on the Cloudbook....
