I was at the gym of my school the other day and noticed that practically all the girls on the cardio machines and in yoga/ cardio kickboxing classes were wearing sweats. I never understood why so I asked some female friends of mine why they always do this and this was their response.
1) because we didn't have time to shave our legs.
2) because we don't want guys to see sweat drip down our legs.

Well, after the first response, i will never look at girls and sweats the same way again. Just thought i'd share.

What are we supposed to wear black corsets, push up bras and heels ?

get a clue, most of us go to the gym to exercise, not serve as drool material for bumbling idiots.

i would just like to say that i am a woman and my bum sweats more than my vagina...infact, i have never noticed a "saturation" problem in that area (from exercising) 😉.

whoa whoa whoa...i've never bumbled.

Because girls have unreasonable demands put on their body image by men and the media.

They cover up perfectly fine bodies out of misplaced shame.

I was surprised no one said this earlier, since I've heard most women get tired of being hit on at gyms.

Plenty of girls wear gym shorts to my university's gym. I've also seen guys wearing a full sweat outfit, I assume they were wrestlers trying to make weight.

Amused hit on the real reason, I believe.

Did you ever stop to consider that we wear sweats to the gym for the same reasons men do ?

1. they are comfortable, when doing cardio or lifting I don't want to stop to constantly adjust some flimsy piece of spandex.

2. sweats go from the gym to the bank/supermarket/daycare center quite nicely
they save time.

3.some of us like to work up a sweat when working out as we believe it releases unhealthy toxins from the body.

4.Some women, like some men are at the gym to exercise, they are serious about improving their health and altering their body shape, the gym is a place to be serious, if we want a meat market we can go to a bar room.

I've been playing sports/running since I was in HS but my legs never sweat. Maybe the crotch, but never legs.... So wtf to number 2?

Let me spell it out: Girls have a vagina. They "perspire" much more between their legs especially when working out. And their underwear tends to be a lot less material than what guys wear, so it saturates faster.

you are SO making that up.

yeah seriously, even if there were an ounce of truth nothing compares to the sweat created from having a mansack bouncing around.

Exactly! The BS the original poster claims his friend said.... I and other women I know wear whatever fits the season. I wear sweat shorts during summer and sweat pants during winter.

The only girls/women that intentionally do differently as the original poster suggested are only those not confident in their appearances. And those are usually girls/women trying to lose weight or with freakin' controling bfs/spouses who see to it that she doesn't expose herself in the gym. I doubt there are that many girls/women out there in the gym.

Well I agree with the gist of your post, but there's got to be a little something more to it - it's cheaper and easier to work out at home or jog.

Sweats don't creep up when you're working out. Another reason might be, ahem, related to odor at certain times of the month.

Did you ever stop to consider that some people prefer the gym because the act of having to pay cash money for their membership is a motivater ?

Sure, but wouldn't spandex or shorts be more comfy?

spandex is an irritating material that doesn't breath well and leaves one's skin feeling clammy and yucky.

Or perhaps it's for more than one specific reason, but boils down to the fact that sweats work the best for the situation. DERR.

Girls can be plenty good looking in sweats. Just because sweats are considered bummin' clothing doesn't make the wearer any more or less attractive... or it may just be that I really don't care about the types of clothes that people wear in relation to their attractiveness.
