How did a Bill Gates "bio" thread turn in to an OS X vs. Windows argument? Geez.

Gates still does high-level "technology" reviews at Microsoft, but I've never seen one first-hand. He has a reputation of asking tough questions for the presenter(s). To say it's probably nerve-racking for those employees is an understatement. :)

Anyway, think about how little time this man has. If you think your schedule is booked, what if you were the richest man on the planet and one of the central figures in the computer industry? Think about all of the people/organizations/governments/charities petitioning you for some of your time! Speaking events, fundraisers, charity appearances. Oh yeah, and don't forget: he spends time with his family too!

The fact that he has any time left over to oversee technology initiatives at Microsoft is impressive to me.

exactly, what i think.
the dude is way too busy, to physically overlook every project.
if anything, he'll drop in on the stuff that counts, the OS, Office, business targeted stuff.
he's not just the richest man on the planet, and central figure for the computer industry, he's the center man for every other industry that relies on computers (which pretty much is everything these days).
