I was reading something about iPods and using them to record lectures. How good is the quality of the recording and do you have to be very close to the speaker?

probably depends on what microphone you use. If you're using a nice shure mic, you can probably have some distance. If you're using a cheap computer mic, you'll probably have to be in the front row.

So you can use any mic you want? I thought it was an attachment that is an accessory for the iPod?

You can't plug in any mic, you have to buy an attachment for the ipod as far as I know.. I really could use this information though, bump! :)

the two most popular are made by Belkin and Griffin. ive never used either, but from ipodlounge forums the conclusion is that the Belkin one is inferior. actually i think Belkin has two models, so the newer one maybe better. as for the Griffin italk it does have an external mic port for you to connect another type of mic in.

the Griffin iTalk does let you plug in an external mic...which is something I might do as well, as soon as I pick up a 4G iPod.

All you need is this very handy microphone.

why record a lecture when you can just pay attention the first time around?

Please no trolling here. I simply asked if anyone had it or used it. I did not ask for wise comments from someone who does not own or have used the microphone for the iPod. Thank you for your general kindness.

Also, I pay attention in class however often times when I'm reviewing for a class I like to listen to the teacher as I OFTEN if not ALL the time pick up on something that I don't recall hearing the first time around.
