Ever turn on the radio just as the Emergency Alert System was going off?

Inspired by this thread.

It reminded of last fall when I flipped on the radio in my car going home and the loud Emergency Alert System sound was going off. I got a chill down my spine for a few seconds until I hear the man announce that "this is only a test'?

Anyone else ever have that happen to them?

Yeah, don't know if this is supposed to be a parody or just a weird thought.

Weird thought.

If it was a parody, I would not have linked to the previous thread.

funny, cause in a perfect world, all parody threads would link to the original.

The day of the attack on Iraq in 2003 the LA TV stations swtiched to EBS for a few minutes. I was watching CNN in a jury waiting area and all of a sudden the county police come on saying there is an emergency. Turned out to be a weather situation, but I was freaked out because of the surrounding circumstances.. thought it was a retaliation attack for at least 10 seconds

I had a similar experience, May 4, 1988. My buddy and I where in the Mojave dessert 4x4ing and camping. We where joking about how if there was a huge earthquake in LA, we were bouncing so much we wouldn't even know. We laughed a bit, and after a few minutes we both decided to turn on news channel on the radio.

Now, we were pretty far from really anywhere and proceeded to get radio reception for just a few seconds. All we heard was 'and the national guard has been called out to secure the downtown financial areas'. Then, the radio went to static. We actually thought LA was hit by an earthquake.

Took about 2 hours for us to get radio coverage back (we were kinda freaked during tha time). It turned out there was an explosion of 4500 tons of ammonium perchlorate in Henderson Nevada (the shuttle booster maker was there).
