Well, you gave up one bad habit and continue another. Crystal Light is sweetened with aspartame, a deadly neurotoxin which ought to be avoided at all costs. Do a google for aspartame and do a little reading. Having consumed enough of it for several years, and recently quitting it completely, I can definitely feel a difference. Food for thought :)

I've been around people who were trying to quit, from what it looks like, it's hell, but I cannot personally contribute.

Good luck on your endavor!

Dont make excuses, the hardest part about quitting smoking is realising that its really not that hard to quit after all, its only hard because everyone talks about how hard it is. Just dont do it!

STOP IT! DONT DO IT! NO!

9 Months clean. :D

I'm at 100 hours right now, and it's starting to get a little tense.
Find something physical to do, even if its only for 10 minutes. If there is one kind of activity that a smoker is not accustomed to smoking while doing, its physical activity. Sitting around, no matter how engrossing, will only potentiate the urge to smoke. I found that if kept my mind and body busy, the urges passed much more quickly.

And remember, as "highly addictive" as nicotine is physiologically, it is also an addiction that is quickly broken, even after years of smoking. Now that you're passed the 72 - 96 hour window, your physiological addiction to nicotine is virtually gone. Its the damned BEHAVIORAL addiction that is difficult to break.

Doing any activity that gives you some pleasurable feeling 20 - 30 times a day for 10 years is going to be difficult to break. With smoking, you become habituated just as much to the mechanical movement of reaching for a cigarette and lighting up.

I remember getting well beyond the 'craving' to smoke and still stopping a few times each day unconsciously looking around for my cigarettes. I wasn't having an urge to smoke, per se, its that I had done this 'movement' 20 times a day for more than 10 years and it was totally unconscious. When I realized what I was doing, I felt silly, kinda like looking around for your glasses while they're on your face.

Smoke free for going on 4 years now. Quit cold turkey

I quit numerous times in high school, most notably during wrestling and football season.

It was hard for me because 90% of my friends and co-workers smoked and 50% of my family smoked..

Just started thinking to myself, who owns you nitemare, the cancer sticks or you. I challenged myself to overcome and beat it and I did. I had serious cravings for about 2 weeks to a month afterwards and chewed the hell out of some gum and ate many a pencil and pen. Probably a year or so later all my cravings subsided, another year later and cigarette smoke makes me nauseous.

I quit smoking cigarettes nearly three years ago, but still enjoy the occasional cigar. To me, these are totally different experiences. I was 100% addicted to cigarettes, smoking about 2 packs/day since I was 15. However, I choose when and how and if I smoke cigars. Generally about one cigar every month or so seems appropriate :).

Anyhow, I was sick when I quit smoking cigarettes. Given my health condition, it was advisable that I never smoke cigarettes again.

I had tried to quit several times before that, going as long as 6 months. It's one of those things that you have to just keep trying until you get it right. It goes without saying that you really have to want to quit.

The first two weeks are the toughest. It gets better :).

Good Luck.

There isn't a single substance known to man that isn't the subject of someone's conspiracy theory. You name it, aspirin, ibuprofin, caffiene, artificial sweetener, et. al. I was recently looking for some information on a veterinary drug that the vet prescribed for our dog and there was like 50 "anti" webpages, none of which cited any reliable information other than "our dog died after a vet prescribed this drug, THEREFORE, it must have been the drug that killed our beloved Fluffy."

As usual, simplicity reigns supreme among the ignorant masses.

OK - 120 hours smoke-free, and I still have both eyeballs. For the record, I've been smoking a pack/day for about 16 years. I'm using the 21mg patches, but I cut them in half. I keep forgetting to take them off before I go to bed. Wacky dreams result.

The last time I tried to quit was about four years ago, and did well for about a week, but I made the mistake of rewarding myself for not smoking by smoking. Lesson learned.

Don't take this the wrong way, I never tried to quit. I DID QUIT.

It's important to make that distinction. If your going to quit, make sure it's for all of your OWN reasons and not because you are being pressured to by people around you.

If your going to quit, Make sure that you DO QUIT. don't get into the habit of quitting, starting up again and quitting, etc. that cycle itself can become addictive.

good luck, quitting is not easy, but it is well worth it.

I'm doing the same thing with the patches. I've been smoke free for about three weeks now and its just starting to get easier. My wife is quitting with me, so we have each other for support.

The patches are great. I've tried to quit several times in the past, and the patches definitely make it easier. I love the dreams. It almost makes me want to keep using the patches just so I can have some of the f***ed up dreams they cause. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

When I was quitting 3.5 years ago, I read on webmd.com that many quitters fall right back into the habit in less than a year. The reason being is that once you have deprived yourself of the nicotine and your addiction is gone, it takes just small amount of nicotine to slam you back into addiction. I remember my first few attempts at quitting. I was clean for a few months when I said, "I'm done. This one stick won't hurt." BAM! Before I knew it, one turned into two, then three, then four.... and I was right back where I started.

I've been smoke-free for 3.5 years now. There have been a few times when I thought maybe one won't hurt. Don't do it. Resist. You'll be thankful you did.

I've heard that drinking grapefruit juice regularly helps stop the craving for a smoke... but what do I know? I've never smoke a cigarette in my life, and could never understand why anybody would want to start in the first place. Peer pressure my eye!

Ditto. I smoked for 15 years and quit when I finished off a pack in fall 1984. I have been smoke free since then. The 2 biggest tests for me were the first time I went bar hopping without smoking and Thanksgiving dinner that year. For some reason a cigarrette after a big meal like that used to be nirvana.

I think I'm making progress. Instead of wanting to poke my own eyeballs out, I want to poke everybody else's out. That's good, right?
