I am thinking about taking time off school after I graduate my course at college. I'll be finished this week, but I still wanted to goto university in the fall. (In Canada, colleges and universities aren't the same... colleges are like community colleges).

Anyhow I wanted to take some time off between there (8 months to be exact) and just code for fun and crap. Had a handful of ideas for projects and so forth some of which could lead to money (I feel). My parents keep hounding me like "so what are you going to do?" and its so annoying :frown:.

It feels like the odds are against me but I'm fairly sure they'd let me take the time off. I worked all the past while of my life and never had much time off to get into a project much. Scraping an hour or two here and there is utterly annoying.

They are kind of fixated on getting a coop or a job right out of college. I truly don't think I'd be happy putting my goals on the backburner like that though... (and furthermore I'd still like a degree)

They seem to think that sitting at a computer in your room must be a complete time wasting activity and that nothing good comes of it cause... you know... I must be playing games.

Figured I want to leave with 2 year diploma, do some of my own stuff and if it turns out I can't make any money from my projects or they don't look reasonable eight months from now at completion (more than enough time... 4 months is good for some) then I'd goto university 8 months from now which is another goal (degree).

I am 90% sure I am going to take the next semester off. This semester was really bad for me.

A friend of mine wants to go to Europe Next Summer (2005). So If I can work full time now and trhough the summer I would be abel to pay for it.

I went four semesters straight, two while working 60 hours/week so I am basically worn out to boot. Of course my Christmas vacation will be nice... I'd like an extended amount of time though.

HAven't taken a vacation from school in a long time.... Let's see, after my sophmore year (98-99) I took a break in the summer. Since then I've been taking classes year round. I graduated with my bachelors degree in May of 2002, and started working full time in June of 02. By august 02, I was enrolled in a graduate program, and I haven't had any time off since.

EDIT: Oops, I Didn't take any classes in the summer of 2002, but I moved to a new city, started a new job, got married and went on our honeymoon, so I Didn't really have time to take a class.

Time off is over rated. :)

I xfered after my first year of college and took a semester off before I started at my new school. Be it luck or fate it was probably the best thing I could have done.

I quit school for a little over 4 years. Currently back in school and much more dedicated this time around.
