Has anyone here ever sprained a *toe*?? If so, how long did it take before the pain went away? -- and did you do anything special to help the healing (other than trying not to put pressure on it)? I iced it immediately but it is still hurting after 10 days. I'm pretty sure it's not broken or fractured, and it's no longer black and purple...

While in a full contact fight, I saw an opening, got excited, and delivered a round kick as hard as I could. The only problem was that I forgot to pull my toes back and kick with the ball of my foot, mashing my big toe into the guy's cheek bone.

That was two years ago and I still feel pain once in a while - especially when it is cold and rainy. I didn't go to the doctor or anything, but I know that I atleast sprained it if not broke it.

i broke my pinky-toe after i dropped a heavy motorcycle on it. It took a month before i could safely walk on it, and about another month after that before it was fully healed IMO.

scary responses! :(

Well, I have not been doing my normal aerobic or lower body exercises for over a week now, so I want to know if putting pressure on it is bad for it (or if will just hurt). If it's the latter (just pain and not going to make the damage worse), I'll suffer through, because I really can't stand sitting around like this. But I don't want to jump back into things too soon if it will do additional damage.

What did you do to it?

The second week of August this year, I broke my big toe in such a stupid way. I was laying on the couch and wanted a beer, so I rolled off of it, and landed on all fours. I swung my right foot under me to push myself up, but instead of doing that, I kicked it pretty hard into the floor. There was a nasty "crack" and it hurt, badly. It was at like 10:30pm, I went to sleep about midnight and couldn't sleep from the pain. Finally I got up about 5:30 and was gonna go to the ER to try and get some meds for the pain. It didn't hurt quite as bad, so I was laying back in the lazy boy gathering the willpower to put on socks and I dozed off. Woke up at about 10am and it didn't nurt nearly as bad so I decide to just wait it out.

It was bruised for about 2 weeks though and still hurts to this day. Every time it rains or is humid, it aches all day. It's still very tender, I bumped it the other day and it hurt so bad the rest of the day I couldn't run that night. I'm really hoping it heals fully, because it's a big pain the way it is now

Nothing so exotic :) I kicked the elliptical trainer  Not on purpose -- I turned to respond to my husband while running across the room and kicked the metal base very hard. I knew it was bad so we immediately iced it. The poor thing turned black and it still hurts to touch it. I have been soaking it in warm water and that makes it feel better, hopefully it's not bad for the healing process.

I've had my little toe broken before, it was painful. But the worst was when I had the undersides of my toenails inflammed and filled with blood. Next day I had bruises on all of 'em and couldn't even bear the pressure of a bed sheet over my feet.

Thanks :) I have decided to wear slippers (flip flops) to work until it feels better. I think that will help.

I was on a 20 mile hike in the mountains, steep grades, then the weather turned for the worst, a major rainstorm. The trail turned into a small river with mud everywhere. With 1000+ ft dropoffs only inches away, I put too much pressure on my toes to secure myself to the ground while trying to get back. I only had regular shoes on that soaked all the water up. As a result, my toenails were softened up, combined with the extended walking and pressure, it pretty much beat up my toes.
