Had the pleasure of seeint them twice in concert. Once in Chicago, the other in Spokane. What a show they put on...Like him or hate him, (eems to be no in-between) his music was (in spite of the wierdness) some of the most precisely done music you'll ever hear. ABNORMALLY precise (meticulous?) for rock-n-roll...every note had to be in it's exact place, and played exactly right.

Yes, I saw them at SPAC in the early 1980s. Great show!!!

I saw Frank Zappa perform a few years later in the late 80s IIRC too.

Sadly, I never made it to a show :(

youtube has many pages on Frank Zappa. The Crossfire show is a good one.

Prostate cancer ended Frank's life.

:music: Broken Hearts are for @ssholes... :music:

I'm too young to have ever seen him in concert, but I have almost all of his albums! He was a musical genius in a very...uhm...odd way. :)

Some of his shows highlighted his musical genius (and awesome guitar playing) and other, like Live at Filmore East, seemed to be a parody of Rock N Roll and Rock Musicians themselves. Either way he did both very well.

Mostly progressive rock of the very eclectic kind. :D

Hmm.
That's about as good a description as you could hope for, I guess. Kind of jazzy funky jammy quirky groovy original too. I can't really think of a band to compare them/him to.

I love Fillmore East, the whole Mud Shark-Bwana Dik suite is so funny. Plus there's a great rendition of Peaches En Regalia.:)

Never got to see him live but i'm working on building up my Zappa collection on cd.

I saw a rerun of an old SNL with him on it about a year ago or so. He was the SNL band that night as well as the musical guest. As if he wasn't "weird" enough, having Don Pardo do part of the vocals on one of his songs was... different.
