I honestly don't think these pics are inappropriate; if they are, I'm sure someone will LMK. ;)

After being bombarded with requests for pics...ok..just three requests, I decided to throw you sadists a bone and take some pics. If wounds make you ill, don't click the links. YMMV. I'm not responsible for damage to anything b/c you puked on it, you big sissy.

In no particular order:

staplehead2.JPG
staplehead3.JPG
staplehead4.JPG
staplehead5.JPG

BTW, the new forums at pics.bbzzdd.com ROCK! I love that instant link thing! Much easier than before. Yes, I voted that it rocks! :D

ps
I know I'm going bald. Bite me. :p

Really. The medical staples. I have two. No, I didn't have brain surgery. You have to have a brain in order to have brain surgery. :p

10 days ago, I ripped my scalp open on the corner of a formica bookshelf. B/C the laceration was a "slice" (like you slice a turkey..oh, I am a turkey...that's right!) as opposed to a "slit" like with a razor, they couldn't sew it shut, so they stapled it shut.

Sorry no pics. :(

Anyway, they told me to come back in 5 days to "see if it was ready to have the staples removed." I can tell you that it most definitely wasnt' ready, as the wound wasn't closed.

It appears to be closed now, the wound is itchy (scab is forming) and the staples are loose.

Not loose enough to pull out with my fingers. Tried that and it hurt, so I stopped.

I don't have any time in the next 72 hours to go the clinic to get them removed as I'm working both jobs.

Anyone pull these things out themselves?

I don't know what to say about this. I think maybe you should find the time, otherwise your head will be a bleeding mass of puss!

You need a special tool that crimps them as they're removed & straightens the prongs.

Please don't take them out by yourself. If you're determined to, I can send you a staple remover in the mail. Send me a PM with your address.

Once again, you avitar fits you MichaelD

It's not bleeding and it's not infected. I went right to the ER and they irrigated it. Hurt like hell! :Q Plus, I've been putting Bacitracin on it 2x/day.

Yes, my Avatar fits me like a glove...that's why I picked it. :D

I have one of those removers...they let me take it home..why, I've no idea...but I have one. My GF worked in an ER and has removed these staples before...I'll just let her do it.

ps
Thanks for the offer, though, PliableMoose!

I have had hundreds of stitches, but no staples, I have had several fingers sewn back on, a couple of toes, most of the skin on my right side grafted back on and several broken ribs, but no stitches, did they hurt when the doctors stapled you up ?

Almost twenty five years of sticking my fingers where they do not belong.

No matter how careful you are, when working around dangerous machinery, you will get bit sooner or later.

We generally only staple scalps, because it's really fast & simple...

I've had ~200 staples/stitches so far...

Good thing chicks dig scars:D

Thank God I'm in insurance and only have to sell things to people who stick their fingers where they do not belong. :)

They gave me several shots in the scalp, so the staples didn't hurt...UNTIL, they mis-stapled (missed completely, actually :|) and had to remove that one and put another one in. By that time, the lidocaine had worn off and that last one hurt.

Felt exactly like a bee sting in the scalp. Yes, I've had that happen too. :(

So you are one of the thieves that have been raking me over the coals the first of every month ?

Ouch! I think removing them without the proper staple remover that we use in the hospitals could be rather difficult.....:p

Thanks, RN Mrs. Skoorb. :) I have the staple remover. How do I work it? They used it when they made a mistake, but my scalp was numb so I couldn't really "feel" what they were doing.

Do I just wedge it under there and squeeze the handles? Do I rest the bottom jaw against my scalp, or do I fully support the remover as I'm squeezing?
