pretty cool that American lets you print your own boarding passes. I'm going from LAX to Hartford tomorrow (6:40am departure, ow).

I understand you can go right to your gate, but do you have to check in at the counter there?

If you have baggage to check in, I don't think you can.

If you just have carry-on luggage, then you can just walk right to the gate.

Many airlines have machines where you can print out your bording pass prior to going through security. I prefer to print mine out there rather than use up my own printer paper and ink.

yeah I always carry-on. I don't know if I need to wait in line for the gate agent tho. with my luck I'll get some idiot security guy that won't accept my printed boarding pass and I'll get cavity searched.

I have not had a problem using self-printed E-Tickets.

You don't need to wait in line. I did it on US Airways out Philly going to LAX and didn't have to wait for anything. Just went through security and walked onto the plane.

On a side note, I find it really interesting that they didn't implement this until AFTER 9/11 and security was increased. Seems like a step backwards. :)

it's convenient for Southwest especially since seats are not assigned. You can check in online, assigned to the first boarding group, and go straight from your car to the plane.

I travel over 150 days a year. It adds up. Besides, why print it out at home when you can print it out there?

one less thing to deal with tomorrow. maybe there will be a line for the self serve terminals, or maybe it won't like my credit card mag stripe. you travel more than 99% of the public so I can see where you wouldn't want to burn a whole ink cartridge just on your own passes ;)

I use it all the time with Northwest Airlines flying out of Detroit. If I need to checkin my luggage I do it at the counter by the parking lot. Lines are typically shorter and then I can use the security gate at the lower level.
The only trouble I have with Northwest is if the reservation is changed I can't do it online.

I"ve been using the Kiosks since they first started. They can be a real time saver. You can change flights (day of travel to an earlier flight etc). Only slowdown is checking baggage and they've gotten pretty quick at that too, used to take 20-30minutes sometimes to check in, now that part is like 2-3minutes on average. The line is at security and that is usually 10minute on average. I don't travel on weekends (usually) so the security lines are probably longer then... I've heard 1hr plus on bad days, probably these next few weeks are bad too. Should definitely get there a few hours early if you don't have refundable tickets.

We prefer teh ticket counters because you can sometimes finesse an upgrade. I think we have been successful about half the time. :D

a few hours? that's crazy. I'll be there 90 minutes early and that should be plenty of time.

Actually with baggage and Delta, you can check-in online (often just for the bonus points), but you;ll need to use the kiosks again at the terminal because those machines also print out the baggage tags; no tags are printed with online check-in (probably because nobody at home would have the type of paper strips needed). The kiosks don't care you're checking in again.

Depends on day. Normally it is plenty (per my post), but, if it's holiday travel at a busy airport, you never know.

Yep. Not being a butthole works really well :). They deal with asses all day, being nice to them really helps.
