Ever notice how many people have ipods?

Visited NYC at the end of last year... and that's one thing I definitely noticed... it seemed almost everyone had an iPod.

The high school I went to 2 out of three have one and the other 1 out of 3 end up stealing one from the other 2 out of 3. So I would have to say that 100% of that school has one. (inner-city school)

The ipod is easy, readily available and does what they need.
As for cost, the reality is that most of thoes people don't think twice about dropping a couple hundred dollars on an ipod they use regularaly. Not everyone is a broke ass college kid.

ehh...well if they're so financially secure, perhaps they should drop like 30 bucks on some decent headphones, so we don't all have to sample their phenominal collection of songs :disgust:
Most people don't care about what headphones they use, it goes back to the non-caring stance they have on technical aspects of consumer product.
They just use the headphones that came with the device, their "financial security" has little to do with what headphones the typical consumer uses.

As for complaining about hearing their music, why don't you go complain to them about it, I'm sure they will be VERY receptive to someone whining about how audible their music is.
If it's in public, who cares. If it's in a more private establishment, then it could easily be a disturbance of the peace.

its fine if they dont mind the quality, I have nothing against the headphones specifically. What I'm saying is that those headphones are so loud that even if its at an appropriate volume, everyone else can still hear it. And yes, perhaps you just sit there and not say anything, but if someone is using their headphones too loud and is distracting everone around them, I will tell them something because in my post I clearly stated that I was in a computer lab. So I dont know if you cant read or if you're one of those idiots with the blaring headphones and you feel offended by me pointing this out.

I've noticed. I used to be one of them, then I bought an iPod alternative. Philips GoGear 6gb mp3 player. It's buggy, slow (when playing music, it sometimes takes up to 3 seconds to recognize input), and above all, it feels like I'm carrying my wallet in my shirt pocket.

So, I'm getting an iPod video 30gb. I don't plan on using the stock craptastic earbuds, either. I'll primarily be using some Sony over-the-ear kind.

Yep. I navigate Chicago streets every day and the amount of iPods present (either in peoples' hands or the headphones give them away) never ceases to amaze...

(Yeah, I got one too. 😀)

heh at every macworld steve jobs shows a sales chart that is crazier then the one that came before. millions and millions of freakin ipods. itunes works pretty well once u add some plugins and label all ur music goddamnit. a pain in the ass for some of those older mp3s before people figured out tagging is mandatory.

i have gone this far w/out one. they come out with new versions every 3-6 months.

at this rate, by 2009 or so, i should be able to get the greatest ipod ever created for cheap

Holding Out FTW!

Drop the "you can't read" bs, it's really played. I might as well go ahead and ask you if you read my post at all.

As I said in the post you didn't read, in a more private establishment (like a computer lab) hearing others music (through headphones or other means) is a disturbance of the peace. In that situation they are clearly being annoying and should stop for the sake of others. In public areas it really doesn't matter. The rest of the world isn't out there to cater to your wants and needs.

No I'm not one of thoes people. I'm long out of school and have no need for an ipod or related portable music device. The only portable item I own that plays music is my car.
So unfortunatly you can't offend me bucko.

Speaking of this, a couple of months ago I caught a special on NBC or something about how kids Ipod's were being stolen because the headphones were a dead give away for thieves.

<--------Wants an Ipod 🙁

Ok...never did I say they can't do it in a public place. And what does being out of school and owning a portable music device have anything to do with each other? also, what in the flying fvck are you talking about me trying to offend you...I'm just trying to figure out why you're ok with people being obnoxious with their ipods. To me the only logical reason someone would argue against keeping their volume at a reasonable level would be if they did not and didnt think anything wrong of it.

As for 'not being able to read' being played out or not, you apparantly didnt read all of my post...so what am I to say?

You asked "So I dont know if you cant read or if you're one of those idiots with the blaring headphones and you feel offended by me pointing this out.". There, that's wheer you said it, remember it now?
Did you even read your own post? I know I read every word of yours.

You asked me if I was one of thoes people, and I'm not, then I stated my current state of affairs. What do they have to do with each other? Well for starters I won't be in a college computer lab where people with ipods are disturbing the peace. I also won't typically be in an area crowded with people playing their ipod headphones at loud volumes. Just a little backround info to give you an idea where I'm coming from. Capiche?

Who said I'm "ok" with people being "obnoxious" with their ipods? Obnoxious is a totally subjective idea. I said that I don't have a problem with people playing their headphones at any volume they want in a public place. Why would the person with the headphones give a crap what you find obnoxious about the volume his headphones are playing at. Now if it was a boombox or something then that would be a different story, probably violating sound ordinances. Sound bleeding from headphones is hardly something to get your panties in a bunch about. Now to reiterate for the third time, if it's in a place like a school computer lab, or library then yes, that's obnoxious.

I'll drop a little cliche for you, do you have a problem with reading comprehension?
Anyway, enough with it, you're being obnoxious!

Someone deliberatly trying to offend you is not the same as you being offended by what someone says.

And go ahead and reiterate how many ever times you want...because this is what I've been saying. I don't know where your argument lies.

the obvious reason why they come with craptastic headphones is to save cost, and like sampson pointed out, 95% don't know that there are better sound headphones. but for the minority who want better sound, apple sells a higher-end ipod headphones for those minorities. (they still suck btw)

yeah i know what you're talking about.in my school, i was the first one with a 2G 4GB ipod mini just as it came out. now, atleast 25% of my school has them. a lot of mini's and like maybe 10 regular one. 3 new 30 gb ones. the other kids who don't have them really like the ipod and many have gotten one too. they all use the same stock headphones and to them, it sound good. i used my pair when i just got my ipod. then after maybe 2 weeks, a wierd clicking noise started. so i took my friend's pair. it happened with them too. so i got this sony pair, and it is the best so far. (mind you not expensice ones, but simple in-ear headphones.) but i love my ipod. i don't use all the 4GB for msuic, rather as storage. it is very very convinient.

I got my first portable MP3 player back in 98'. I believe it was called a DAP64 or something. Smaller and lighter than a conventional iPod, that's for sure. Was cool at first because I was into running and biking a lot, and needed some portable 'jams' to make the time go faster.

I soon got sick of it and retired it. Also got sick of drying it out after it kept falling in my stupid hot tub. The IPod is basically the same fad with the Sony Walkman back when I was in grade school. Today's MP3 players have very better reproduction quality, and the price of music is cheaper {smirk}, but it's just a recycled fad that people will get tired of when their high frequency hearing starts getting impaired..

My annoyance with the things is I simply get tired of listening to the same music. If somebody would invent a portable that could get Shoutcast reliably, and you could move around without altering reception, I'd buy one. Then again I want a portable vidoe player that plugs directly into the visual cortex as well and doesn't require VR goggles, so I know I'm dreaming.

You should get the Apple Care warranties because iPods have "self-destruct" features after 1 year and usually crap out. A good iPod lasts 18 months then craps out on you.

I know about this since I do work well with extended warranties (not AppleCare) and tons of iPod claims are being done on a daily basis.

Geek Squad? Its a rare day when someone doesn't bring me an Ipod to check out when i'm doing Counter Ops.

I really want to buy an Ipod video, but i'm waiting to see if they release one with a larger screen. Employee discount on Ipod (not all that big, pretty similar to the student discount through the applestore) + service plan = WIN.

I don't see ipods that often in fact. I have an ipod mini, and i very rarely see them. At work, only one other person has an ipod, and she got that for xmas, and she didn't even wanted it (she wanted the zen). At my gym, i don't see ipods often either... in the past 6 months, i've seen maybe 2 others.

My ipod is still going good, and i was afraid when i first got it, that it would break quickly... i treat my things like sh1t, and i've broken all my others, which were flashbased and not HDD. I do wish i had held out a few months and gotten the Nano though.
