He was buying a GPS and asked me if it would work in Iraq. I asked him politely why he wanted it to work in Iraq. I figured he was in the military or something. He told me he works security over there. Those guys that were killed and strung up on that bridge, those were his friends. He told me a coupld stories of his close friends getting killed. I was trying not to say the wrong thing.

When he left I told him to be safe when he goes back. He said very plainly, "If I'm not, you will read about it in the pater."

I was just in awe. This guy risks his life everyday and its no big deal to him. It kind of shook me up for a couple minutes after he left. I kept picturing him burned and bloodied laying in the desert.

Yea, in awe of hot friggen' hot they are, or how perky the boobs.

Does that count?

But more in line with the story ... my grandfather was in command of a tank division in Korea. He ordered the dead of countless people, and his stories bring tears to his eyes every time. That leaves me in awe.

Cobra GPSM3000.

Easiest to us and completely plug and play. I told him he might be able to find software for Iraq, but I doubted it.

He told me about his buddy that was set to go home in a couple days. The guy had just survived a roadside bomb attack on his vehicle. Right before he was set to go home he got shot in the neck by a sniper. The guy was sitting right beside him.

How do you get used to that?

I worked as a contractor on post for a year, working hand and hand with soldiers. Heard lots of cool stories from the unit that had just gotten back.

Army Captain introduces himself: "Hi, I'm Captain XXXX." Navy Captain says: "Hey, what a coincidence, I'm a Captain too!" :p

Heard one story about a Warrant Officer (who speaks ENGRISH) trying to teach a bunch of Iraqis (who barely know English) how to run a warehouse!

Some of the coolest people I've met are the men and women of the armed forces

Luckily idiots like you hide behind the keyboard all day so no one's safety is left up to you.

I've known people who have gone here and there doing interesting things. None of them would tell you about it though. Perhaps your fellow runs a Halliburton lunch truck?

Like I said, I know how to read people I only got him to talk about his job after I told him that my buddy had just gotten back from Iraq and had 3 humvees blown out from under him. I may be confrontationaly on here, but IRL I really do know how to get people to talk.

I have quite a few people that are in Iraq that tell me about it. One is my brother so I guess that doesn't count but I don't see why there should be doubt.

Time, repression, and some people just aren't bothered by it.

I also sell $7000 plasma TV's and $10k worth of appliances.

Maybe thats why I get along so well with police officers. We both have to deal with all types of people, and have to learn how to read them.

There is a whole world of things not generally known by the public at large. People who drive trucks, work as Mill might be able to are just like everyone else. There are others though who shall we say live interesting lives, and they don't talk about it. It's just not done.

There is no disgrace in being part of the service industry in Iraq, however it seems that this fellow is enjoying displaying his situation more than would be expected. If he is involved in any sensitive matter, then he is an idiot for talking about it at all. You keep your mouth shut and do your job. In fact you are paid to shut up.

Back in high school when I worked at Best Buy, I helped an older lady who was looking at computers. I commented on her Myrtle Beach shirt since I had been there many times. She informed me that it was from a reunion of the women baseball players from the World War 2 era. Always thought it was mainly a myth until I heard her stories.
