ever lost a savegame?

my brother upgraded his pc some months ago, bought oblivion, and i played it off and on over there. i beat the main quest last week with a level 25ish mage, great game, way better than morrowing.

he reinstalled windows yesterday. and be reinstalled, i mean he formatted and reinstalled. my savegame is gone.

but its not the mage that bothers me, i hadnt intended to play anymore with him.

i had gotten out of the cave where you talk with the emperor and was out of it about 4 minutes before saving last week....and now i have to do that damn thing all over again :/
 
The intro takes all of about 20 minutes if you already know what you're doing. Probably less. Really not worth getting worked up about.
 
It wasnt Oblivion, it was Morrowind.
And yes I was pissed. I had about 100 hours on my game. Most of the main quest and almost all of the side quests. Not to mention a BUTTLOAD of goodies.
And I had burgled and alchemied my way into a Private Mobile Base. I had earned the gold for every single part of that thing.
It was the kind of loss that makes you not want to start a new game.

Had similar issues with Baldurs Gate 2 and Deus Ex.
But in Deus Ex I was smart enough to make a new save for each level. Not a major issue to restart one level.
With Baldurs Gate 2 I made a new save for each chapter. The problem with that was I got into a certain chapter and stayed there a long time while I did side quests.

Also lost saves on some flight sims, Freelancer and X-Wing Alliance. That sucks because some of the really hard missions are also unpleasant.

Regular shooters are not so bad because you can usually find a cheat to get back to your last level, and maybe even a cheat to get back your equipment.
(Same with RTS's.)
 
Not really a lost save, but I remember playing Vagrant Story back on the PS1, and playing like 6 hours without saving. Then I died. I never played that game again 🙁

LOL - in close to 20 years of gaming, Vagrant Story is the one and only game I have ever physically destroyed out of dark, utter, steaming hatred.
 
ha, i used to be obsessed with super smash bros melee, and my sister didn't know what 'overwrite' meant. as you can imagine i lost everything.
 
In FF7 on the PSX... my save game file got corrupted when i reached the end of disc 2.... was so pissed about that..
 
FF7 on PS1, card got borked, i never finished it, it IMO was one of the worst and most annoying FF games ever made, and when i lost my save i really had no intention of finishing it, its the only FF that i havent beat to day

other then tactics which really really sucked
 
Well it wasent really a game progression save i lost, but on the original C&C i built a massive base with defences everywhere, well protected power plant areas and mining areas too. Saved that, lost the save on a floppy disk.
 
Yep, Baseball Stars for the NES. But back then you had to pray each time you turned it on, hoping your team was still saved.
 
About 4 -5 years ago , after playing Diablo 2 ....totally legit on the closed B-net. I had a bad ass character that took like 6 months to build.......many many hours in playing. And he had a full magic find set of equipment.....EVERYTHING....he was so cool because it was all legit....and then I didn't play for a while , and POOF. He was gone.....pissed me off so much I quit playing Diablo.
I just started playing it again for fun the other day though , now I'm just hacking my equipment. It's faster.
 
I once lost my pokemon game with 149 pokemon. The last one was one I wanted to save to evolve, too. 🙁
 
Ever since I got Gmail, I just have a seperate Gmail account which I put a whole bunch of saves and other things in. Sure it won't be the most up-to-date save, but it'll be better than starting from the beginning.
 
Pokemon Blue for Gameboy! Now don't go a flame me over this... I was in 6th grade and all my friends we playing it as well 😛. I had beaten the game with 6 of my main pokemon's at lvl 80+ or something and found/caught 120 out of 150 of the pokemon's. I tried to use a gameshark to add Mewtwo to my list and that crashed my game. It was a sad day indeed 🙁..
 
I haven't really lost a saved game but I have had corrupted save files (Descent 3, Quake 4) and I've quick-saved myself into impossible situations over the years.
 
GranTurismo 2 on PS1, played it for like 6 hours straight, without saving. My bro comes and flips the switch for the light, which the ps1 also connects to (same circuit). Never played GT2 again. 😛
 
Good old Pokemon... I had all 151 pokemons and I had a few lvl 100s, but one day the save went corrupt and I had to restart.

Same thing happened to me with my level 80-some Paladin with a lot of great gear. I just never played Diablo 2 anymore.

I've done that too. Quick saves are nice but if you rely on them they may bite you in the butt.
Its always good to make a new level save if possible.

I have made quick saves that were 0.5 seconds away from a bullet or arrow in the head, and I have made quick saves when I was in so deep I couldnt get out. I might live for another 10 mintutes but its still guaranteed death every time.
 
FEAR - had to reformat, no boot 🙁

Meh, wasn't that bothered though, it runs like crap on my pc and i'm buying an upgrade within 1 month sooooooo i'd be playing it over again anyway in glorious max quality, 1024 at least. 😀

damn right. i even got mew as well from a trade and then all of a sudden the save wasnt there!

thats when i started growing out of pokemon.......
