In thought of the last resume thread, how many of you have lied on your resume?

I'm 19 with some job experience, but never had any reason to lie about past history. Any past employer would highly recommend me as would my coworkers.

Your turn....

No.

I really was a thermonuclearbiophsicical hemotomatic pneumatic erratic Gynecologist. In fact, while doing an exam on a bus full of blonde supermodels in Zimbabwe, and I isolated a strain of mold that appears to be the cure for cancer, hiccups, and rectal itching.

Haven't ever lied on a resume but I still remember being really tempted to when I was applying for my very first job.

Yeah, I lied in my references section. I stated I can furnish them upon request... but in reality... I don't think I could have. MUHAHAHAHA. No lie. Oops, there I go again.

Seriously though, you can embellish upon certain things, but most people reading the resume can tell if you're speaking outta your @$$. While on the other end of the spectrum, NEVER sell yourself short.

yeah. depending on where i'm applying i sometimes lie in the references section. i know people that are VP's of some pretty big corps. so i get them to tell a little white lie and say that i worked there and that i'm a good employee. ;)

Ivy league resume books (sent to Wall Street Firms) are full of it. I was reviewing one with my Wall Street Buddy many years ago and saw several guys from my year claiming to have been the captain of the rugby team,etc... The fact that I WAS the captain and they didn't even play soon led to their removal from the resume book.

HA! assbites...

And no, integrity is important to me and I wouldn't do it.

You shouldn't lie on a resume, but a little emblishment doesn't hurt. Put down everything you know on a resume, even if you're not an expert in it. You'll never know what technology "buzzword of the week" recruiters are looking for!

If you say that you know something or someone that you DON'T, however, it will come back to bite you in your interview. Or even worse, on the job if they hire you.

No. I have a bed, or in the occasion that I don't want to walk to my room, a couch. I have generally found that a resume is not a good place to lie.

not yet, but i've been thinking long and hard about it ever since that lame HR lady cancelled an interview on me at the last second solely based on my gpa.

No. Dishonesty only serves to disable you in the future. Not to mention that most competant employers do background checks and check references.

David Geffen lied on his resume that he had a degree from UCLA. Look where it got him.

Lying usually isn't necessary. If you don't have the stuff, you don't have the stuff.

Embellishment is quite another thing. It's all a matter of making whatever mundane job you've had seem mission-critical. And when you're done embellishing, you can list fiction writing as a skill on your resume.
