yeah my primary system idles at around 115w using kill-a-watt. Pretty cool stuff, even when I cant use CoolNQuiet because my mobo won't let me due to overclock

Hmmm, the pic was right after the OS install. I've installed the updates and now it's idling around 133w and I still haven't gotten the drives in yet. Same config, nothing changed but OS updates, Creative driver install, and AMD/ATI driver install.. this is interesting, very interesting.

EDIT: oops, false alarm.... looks to be settling ~ 108-109w YAAAAY

What is that CPU cooler???!?!!!? That thing is sick

On the topic, I love my LGA 775 system. I am slowly getting ready to go to a Bloomfield i7 950 (have the CPU and RAM, holding off till after the holidays on the rest) and do not expect to do another major upgrade for at least two years. I'm not even sure I'll sell my existing board, CPU and RAM - the RAM is probably worth more than I paid for it and the board is superb and can't be purchased anywhere now.

Yes, the HS is a Megahalems :)

And the case is a ABS Black Pearl - cost ~ 100$ it's basically a Lian Li off brand with almost all the same features as the one it's a remake of. The front is to the left and the case opens on the right side: opposite of conventional cases.

i7 920 stock, 5870 vanilla sapphire, Vertex LE 100G (win7 64), Seasonic X 650w, X-Fi Titanium, 3 120x38mm fans - meet my new daily machine!!! ... well, haven't added 4 other HDDs but this is lookin gooood!!

i can 1 up you..

im fairly sure i showed this system off b4.

Its my sossoman.

Dual Socket 478 lappy processors on an enterprise setting.

I guess u can call it the grandmother of the C2D.

1 140mm fan is enough to cool both cpu sockets.

And dual lappy processors mean low voltage, and low heat.

Basically this setup was intended to tight spots and high temp zones.

Its a OK cruncher... but i mostly use it as a file server.
The Hard drive collection it has probably draws more power then the entire platform, seeing how i have 8 x 2tb drives attached to her as of today.

edit:

i'll save you a click, 99w idle & steady. I unplugged all 3 fans right? but wait. I fitted a 120x25mm fan for the exhaust and a 140mmx25 fan in front of the HS & NB area and I am still idling at 99w AND it's quiter than my Q9650 box which has a Lian Li PC-A20 case with sound padding etc. This ABS is very open with almost the entire right case panel (looking from front) perforated for ventilation let alone the top 2 120mm fan fixtures for h20, and the bottom 3 120mm perforated ventilation fixtures.

I should have kept my E6550 and not bothered with i7, but hey, once you make the move there's no looking back!

Oh I went through COUNTLESS steps between those but none of them were a big enough jump in performance increase in my "normal computing" for it to be worthwhile. Though the current 980x trashes the E6550 in most aspects, it still runs email and freecell just as fast as my E6550 did. :awe::biggrin:

yeah i upgraded alot as well, this time though im not upgrading till either:

1. I can get a 30%+ performance boost for under $500(cpu,mobo,ram)

2. My current CPU bottlenecks a GPU(s) im trying to use

3. I win the lottery :)

Running i7 @ 4.2GHz for 1.5 years now. Most stable system I've ever had. I won't consider upgrading until a sub $300 CPU has better per core performance at stock speed than my current system.
