Ever heard of this happening?!

My cd-rom opened while I was trying to start stacraft so I tried pushed close but nothing happened. I close it with my hand it pops back open I look in 'my computer' it's no longer there as E: drive. Anyone heard of this happening?

running win XP?

if so: go to control panel -> system -> hardware tab -> device manger -> expand the IDE/ATA menu -> uninstall the primary or secondary channel depending on which channel the cd-rom is on

restart the computer and the channel should automatically be picked up again

spyware can do that too. some ware files are put into the system registry and can do all sorts of weird things.

dont remember the name upfront but had it happen to a friend and after the cd drive opened his machine did not respond for 3 or 4 mins ..... the anti virus did not detect it and he had to go in the registry to delete some entries.... sonds like a varient of that virus .... I'll e-mail him to get the details

Any program can open the cd rom viruses just do it without permission. That wouldn't explain why XP lost track of the drive. Atleast it was easily fixed.
