Anyone over 18 can buy lottery tickets, but how come I never hear of an 18 year old winning the lottery?

You can buy at 18 but they don't let you will until you move to a trailer and remove half your teeth.

We had a girl in Canada who held the single largest winnings record for quite awhile. I think she won about 20 mil. I think she was about 19; a hairdresser at the time. Last year some 20 yr. old snowboarder won about 15 mil. as well.

it usually takes people longer than twenty years to realize that they have a better chance of winning the lottery than having any kind of success on their own...

18 year olds would rather buy cigs.

tell that to my grandmother

IS your gandma 18?

no she's 84 and would rather buy cigarettes than lottery tickets

and that is relivant to 18 year old purchases how?

The question is why older people seem to win the lottery more often than younger people. cjgallen suggested that younger people would rather spend money on cigarettes than lottery tickets. By saying that my grandmother would rather buy cigarrettes than lottery tickets, I was suggesting both that my grandmother has a nicotine addiction, and that older people in general are just as likely to spend their money on cigarettes as younger people.

Because you have to be 21 to play the Lotto in AZ.

The fact is that there just are not alot of 85 year old smokers still around.

So while the lottery may be a bad investment I would bet that thoose who pic lottery over tobacco have a much greater chance of living long enough to win. ;)

I remember some girl in my neighborhood about 10-15 years ago won the NYC lotto. She was 18-19 and working at some fast food restaurant.

Why do I think she is probably broke by now?

Of course, she must have been poor because of poor money management skills.

Because 18 year olds are only 18 for 365 days, so for them to win in that time period is unlikely even if they happen to be purchasing lotto tickets...

A customer of mine hit $1,000,000 on a five dollar ticket when he was 20 years old.

Now he is 25 and broke. He bought a double wide mobile home and blew the rest.

Some young people are so ignorant when it comes to money. If he invested it wisely he would have been all set for quite a while, but instead, he works his a$$ off towing cars and searches in between his car seats for change to buy a cup of coffee.

:disgust::thumbsdown:

This kid I met at a party won $1,000 a week tax-free for the rest of his life...he's 23, it was the third time he played the lotto. Lucky him.
