FedEx, UPS Packages Stolen From Doorsteps

Boxes, Packing Slips Found Abandoned In Woods

WMUR-TV in Manchester said that almost a dozen homes have been hit. Investigators said they believe the same person may have targeted Bedford last week.

Police said the thief follows United Parcel Service and FedEx trucks, waits for a delivery and then grabs packages before the recipients can pick them up.

The thief has taken hundreds of dollars of random items in the past week. Police said they didn't know the full extent of the case until someone found all the empty boxes with packing slips abandoned in the woods nearby.

Well, at least there's one benefit to being unemployed...

Although I did receive one item that had been opened by someone working for fedex/ups, since only the accessories remained

This stuff happens a lot. I work in customer service and deal with this everyday.

"You told me the replacement receiver would be here in 3 business days. It's been over a week."
"Uh, the UPS site tells me it was delivered 4 days ago."
"Someone must have stolen it. Can I get another one?"

And so begins my nightmare as I realize all the fun stuff that will happen. Have to contact another department and extend the call by at least 10 minutes so they can 'research' the issue and create a second RMA while I know that 4 weeks later, the customer will get charged a Non Returned Equipment fee because our software now expects the customer to send us back TWO defective units and there is no way to override and fix that. This would all be ok if we just sent the cust a bill and they called to dispute and reverse the charges. But then we will most likely just automatically charge their credit card for the fees which will create an even bigger, heated escalation after we tell the customer it will take 7 business days for him to get his $400 refund back, which will lead to the customer yelling about the inevitable overdraft fees this would cause him because his mortgage payment comes out in three days and that $400 really needs to be back there in 10 minutes tops, all this shit ultimately leading to the customer getting 3 months free service, a bunch of credits...or maybe cancellation.

Oh fuck, I'm venting about my shit job.

That sucks... is there no way to cancel the first RMA?

No, that's the beauty of it. There is a feedback forum and a forum where all CSRs/TSRs rant and demand more features to resolve what shouldn't be complicated issues. Everytime they update the app to add more functionality, something else breaks. No one I've ever spoken to has explained why it's so hard to simply allow us to cancel an RMA.

That is so full of fail.

I'm sorry for you...

One company I've had to deal with changed their phone number about 4 months ago. The original one is now disconnected.
Their website still shows the old phone number. When I told them about this after tracking down their new number, I was told, both ~3 months ago, and about a week ago, "Yes, we're working on that."

Someone has to change 7 digits on ONE PAGE, and upload the changes. This requires several months of work? Are they teaching HTML to a dog?

Simple changes sometimes require staggeringly high levels of effort just to get someone to even think about working on it.

That company sounds full of fail and wont be around that much longer if they keep that kind of BS up

I had a large box arrive from UPS that was clearly opened by someone along the way before it was delivered. A $300 item was missing, luckily Amazon took care of me. Also had a high number of packages go "missing" (like 1-2%; they would show "Out for Delivery" and then never arrive at my door). This happened mostly when I first started having a lot of packages shipped to me, and after that there were no problems. Hopefully whoever was stealing the packages at the warehouse got canned. This was all UPS by the way, I've never had a problem with Fedex, although I get a lot more packages from UPS than Fedex.

I've also had one package taken from the front porch (99.9% certain it was the day laborers working on the house next door, as they were literally working right next to where the packages were dropped off, and you can't see the packages from the street).

Ordered a stick of RAM about 1998 while working at a company, it was for one of their computers (the one I was working on). It didn't arrive and I wound up buying one at a computer show. Eventually UPS said they'd blown the delivery somehow, it got overlooked or misrouted.

I guess the one advantage I have to working third shift is I'm always home when UPS comes by. They're usually pretty consistent on time too.

I've had a package go missing. About a week or so after I'd ordered it (via UPS) I checked the tracking and it said it had been delivered several days prior. Hmph.

It was a computer case and had 2-3 day shipping. Ok. It didn't walk off.

Turns out my neighbors received it (we called them the "hippie neighbors") and had just let it sit inside their doorway, assuming it belonged to someone in the house.

Damn hippies. Never bothered to check the address on the package.

same thing happened to me with a phone replacement. i told them to ship it to my office, they shipped it to my house. i was out of town for a week, they gave it to my neighbors. they didnt give it to me when i got back home, i found out from fedex they dropped it at neighbors house. the door placard had gone missing as well. neighbor had no excuse, just smiled and handed over the box. the shipper said "signature required", i didnt think they would be so shitty as to accept the neighbors siggy and put my last name into their software

Last month I took my wife to the doctor. The only parking was at the very back of the lot next to a UPS truck that had backed in and taken 2 spaces. As I got out of my car I noticed a sandwich and a soda on the dash and figured the guy was just taking lunch.

I looked inside the UPS truck and saw the driver lookiing at labels and holding packages up to his ear and shaking them.

I thought it was odd.

I've posted here before about a UPS package that was delivered to my house by mistake. I walked two doors down to my neighbor and gave them their package.

The next day the driver and an investigator show up at my house and tell me the neighbor claimed the package had been opened. I let the driver know that he left the package on my front porch without a signature and he was the one who drove off when I answered the door. I told them to buzz off.

I had one UPS package that decided to go on a world tour before arriving. Left NY for NC and went by way of Hong Kong, Paris, Taiwan, back to Paris, Brazil, Mexico, Florida, then NC.

FedEx really pissed me off the other day. I ordered something from Amazon Prime that was to be delivered to my Mom at her house. It was an xmas gift for the kids (xbox and wii games) and it was easier for me to pick them out and order them and have them shipped to her to bring for xmas. Well Amazon sent them 2-day FedEx and 2 days later the package shows as delivered. I called to let my mom know who went home and found the package missing. So she called FedEx and the guy on the phone was rude to her. He said it was stupid to have something sent without a signature and that there was nothing they could do. He said they would call the driver, but if the driver said it was delivered...we're screwed. So I told her not to worry, I called Amazon and reported it lost and they said no problem, they would ship new games out even faster (overnight).

Next day, guess what happens? Freaking FedEx delivers the original package to her house!! She called back and spoke with the same guy and he said they called the driver and the driver would never call them back. Then magically the package appears on her door the next day. So what are we to assume - was the driver trying to steal the package or was he saying items were delivered and then just not delivering them?

It's one thing if the driver is doing something, but the fact the way they acted like it was our fault and we're idiots for how Amazon shipped it...come on.
