Damn you Kev, stealing my idea by posting a lucid dream thread (I did it first!)! 😛

Well like I've said before I have had lucid dreams before, but it's been a long time, and I don't remember any of them now. I do remember one dream though, that I was riding a motorcycle on the highway, and I seemed to be going super fast, and suddenly I'm heading towards the side of the over-pass and couldn't make myself swerve out of the way, I just slammed right into the thing and woke up. I didn't get scared either, which was really weird. I wish I could lucid dream at will though, it'd be sweet. 🙂

When I was a child I suffered from Night Terrors. You know, nightmares that would carry over into the first few minutes of waking up. Had them ALL the time. I found the technique when I was about 10 and was having a particularly frightening dream where something was following me and killing people I cared about. I suddenly realized that I was in control of what was happening and defeated the thing and that ended my Night Terrors. I have had a few lucid dreams since then where I can fly, float, really. Usually, the moment I realize it's a dream, I stop dreaming. Also doesn't help that I slip into deep sleep very quickly.

To hell with out of body experiences. I'll take Remote Sensing! 🙂

When I'm having a bad dream, I usually know I'm dreaming. Unfortunately, I usually wake up before I can do anything fun. If I don't wake up immediately, I usually transform into a super-human. (Usually I notice super strength, but sometimes I have enough time to fly. BTW, has anyone tried to fly at high speeds? It takes a lot of effort for me to do that.)

i always wake up the moment i realize that i'm dreaming.... i need to find a counter to this...

also, have you ever noticed that you are only able to do things you have already experienced in dreams? and that you sometimes remember things in dreams that you don't in real life? that ALWAYS happens to me. once, I don't know why, but I saw this multiplication problem - it was a 3-digit number times a 2 digit number. I dreamed the solution, and I woke up right after... the answer was correct. and i did this really fast in a dream.

<< Anyone here ever have dreams that later come true? Like deja vue'? >>

Yup, quite often actually.

Same here. And the more I experiment with this stuff, the more often it happens. For anyone who's interested in this, there's lots of good books out there and dozens of different techniques. The key is finding a technique that does something for you and then sticking with it. I think anyone can do it with a bit of effort, though some will need to work harder than others.

Anyone have OOBE's? Now that's something I'd love to be able to do.

OOBE's? THere's no scientific evidence for or against them, but I personally think they're an illusion constructed by the brain... sort of like dreams 🙂

I heard of a doctor that put a paper with a number written on it above the light, and asked near-death patients who reported an OOBE experience if they had seen the paper, and if so, what number was written on it. Not one has discovered the number so far 🙂

Oh, DID you, now? Well I did a search on "lucid" and couldn't find any threads 😀

I used to get these weird dream "experiences" where I would "wake up" yet be unable to move. It felt like I was suffocating, and I had to make a conscious effort to breathe. Those freaked the hell out of me!

In a psych class I once took they affirmed that lucid dreaming is real and some people experience it more than others. They're doing experiments to volunteers while they sleep to use some outside stimuli to let them know when they're dreaming without waking them up in hopes that it allows them to lucid dream. The example given was a scientist watching a woman sleep and monitoring her sleep patterns and when she hit REM and was supposed to be dreaming he flashed a red light over her head. It allowed her to realize she was dreaming and take control over the dream. Pretty cool experiment I thought.
