Because I think I'm rapidly approaching that point. I understand the usual "work sucks, deal with it" thing, but shouldn't you at least enjoy your work once in a while? Is that too much to ask?

i hate my boss and he hates me, and i loath to go to work every single day
yet i still go every day. it's a job, and i'll have stuff to put on my resume, and i learn more skills
but yes, the thought that i might as well quit crosses my mind EVERY SINGLE DAY

it is only when you have an even WORSE job will you appreciate this one.

Yes, I grew to hate my job and the way my boss treated me. Finally, while 900 miles away from home without a car or a plane ticket, I just couldn't do it anymore. I quit and walked off the job. Only time in my life I've done that. I took a cab to the airport, rented a car and drove home. Scary at the time but one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

I put up with the world's worst boss for a couple of years. I would dream of ways to kill her. I finally ended up getting a job in another state to get away from her. She thought I was her best friend. *shudder* She was EVIL.
I just love my job in summer so much flex time I see my boss only once a week one hour lunch break and nice office.
In October I disliked a new job so much that I literally walked out and never went back...and it was an $80k job.

-the pay is $hit
-most if not all the customers are assholes
-no one cares that you are a person too
-you work when everyone else isn't
-your boss is a loser that couldn't do any better with their life so they go on power trips on highschool or early college kids

*edit* i forgot to mention that the chances from moving up are few and far between, even if you do move up its hardly ever any better

Nope, it's not too much too ask.
I've felt that same way, to the point where I'd no-show at work and not call in just to ****** over my boss. I hated the job so much I didn't even plan on getting a reference/job experience out of it. I'm normally a responsible guy, but this job really did something to me.
Anyway, don't do what I did. Just leave on good terms, but by all means get out. Unless you're making like six figures, it's not worth it to put up with a crappy job that makes your whole life miserable.
going through it now, left a good job and took up something I shouldnt have, got another job now, and am going to start in a few days, cant wait

yep, had that at my last job. for a technical support job, you'd think the people working there sould have some kind of technical skills. not these dolts. they just pulled anyone off the street. bosses didn't care that people were screwing up royally all the time.
So, those that walked away with non-burger job... Details? I'm just wondering what caused you to walk from a job 900mi from home, or that paid 80k a year, without setting up something new first.

Worst job ever: UPS Driver's helper during the holidays.
I was out of work around this time 2 years ago and this job sounded like an easy way to make money during the holidays. Big mistake.
They paid about $5/hr after taxes to sprint from a truck up hill (and 90% of homes are elevated) with 20lb packages or +30lb Dell computers and run back. Other than a 30 min lunch, I was running non-stop for 6-8 hours a day. After 3 weeks I literally could not walk, my heels were so sore.
I was out of work around this time 2 years ago and this job sounded like an easy way to make money during the holidays. Big mistake.

Yes, twice. The first time I was washing dishes at a Grand Union in the Albany, NY area. I put up with that for longer than I care to admit in my teens but finally had enough and just stopped showing up for work.
Years later I worked for the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce selling ad space for their phone directory. That job sucked ass in so many ways. It was actually worse than washing dishes. Basically, it was me going door to door to a bunch of tightwads of various ethnicities asking them if they wanted to buy ad space in a directory nobody uses and pay a bunch of money to do so. The people who had actually been suckered into this before would berate you until you left in shame. Most others would just tell you no and that was that. I think I had one renewal and one new signup in about 4 weeks of pounding the pavement. God that sucked.

Yep, it was a job I took our of desperation when I was like 19 or 20. It was packaging modems at a 3Com manufacturing facility. I pretty much made boxes to put the fscking modems in. I stayed at that job for like a week or two before I had enough but not so much that the job was difficult, it was just tedious, pointless and repititive (as you can imagine).
I hate my plant manager, he doesn't like me, my job is boring, and the salary is way below national average (this is for living in Idaho). But I like the people I work with, so it's not that bad yet.
recently, i worked for my vet. he is a great vet and a nice guy... after three weeks, i have to leave.
there was no one else to work in the office, but me... and i was doing the work of three people. i am 42yrs old and carrying 2 dozens 20 lb. bags of food and 10 cases of canned food to the basement every day was hard enough, without having to worry about non stop ringing phones and appointments and etc. even cleaning cages and assisting in surgery did not freak me out. there are three major reasons for my decision to leave.
1) the vet... who has been my vet and my friend for 6+ years was going thru some serious personal carp, and took it all out on me. it was a horrible atmosphere and i was walking on eggshells.
2) the arthritus in my hips, knees and lower back had me in serious pain all the time and i lived on otc painkillers.
and most importantly....
3) i could not deal with the death of animals. If ppl brought their animals to be put down, it broke my heart. and we had one really cute little schnauser that I had bee caring for since the day i arrived. i loved him and fed him and walked him and got attached to him and when he dies of kidney failure, it hit me hard.
so, i left.
