I just want something nice to eat tonight and M&S grill in the inner harbor is where I want to go. Is it just weird to go to dinner by yourself? Should I bring something to read? What do you do?

UPDATE: So I just got back from McCormick and Schmicks and was seated really nicely by the hostess. She was really nice. Then I got a waitress named Jennifer and she was extremely friendly and sorta cute in a quirky way. Asked me what I would like to drink and what not. Ordered an Arnold Palmer and a Miller Lite....sorry I like Miller Lite.

NOTES:

1. she brought my drinks and we conversated a little and asked me what I wanted...
2. Ordered Stuffed flounder with Crab imperial w/ garlic mash potatoes.
3. Came back with my food and saw Davinci code on the table and loved the book
4. talked a bit and finished dinner
5. Wish i had asked her if she was single.....but didnt
6. overall good experience alone at dinner....
7. Now what to do about Jennifer the waitress...

I have, but that was when I was travelling alone overseas, and I didn't want to forgo good food just because I wasn't with anyone.

I spend my days traveling for work, so I have gone to dinner myself plenty of times... usually I just bring something to read when I wait for the food...

Yeah, i've done it. If you want to read, bring something. Or if you do a lot of thinking, bring a notepad. I usually don't bring anything though.

If you really want to then by all means. I would bring a book. Me personally I dont feel like spending money to eat out if I dont have friends to eat with, I'd rather just eat at home and watch tv/play on the computer. But different strokes. Enjoy your dinner

P.S. I don't like it when peopel bring along the Wall Street Journal or a book to read. Who are they kidding. They are so embarassed by eating alone that they have to act like they are busy with this important book or newspaper. "Yeah, I could have ate with someone, but these stock trades have to be done before the market opens tomorrow!"

I like it better when people go eat alone, and just sit there.

I do it. If I'm in the mood for a great steak and an amber and nobody is around I just go. (And I have a fiance!) I don't understand the stigma about doing things like that on your own. If you want to go... go.

I agree with you there entirely, but might as well read a good book while you are there right? Never the WSJ though!

I also eat by myself more often than not, but I've never gone to a nice restaurant by myself.

I usually get fast food if I'm by myself.
