I stopped at Old Navy to buy some disposeable clothes. After 15 minutes I had an armload of stuff. When I got to the front there were 3 registers open, each with a line of about 25 people. I asked an employee who was standing at a closed register if they were gonna open any more lines, and he said "no, we're understaffed today." I plopped my stuff down on the counter, said "maybe next time then", and walked out.

I tend to agree with the OP - if you are going to spend money - you need service.

Waiting in line takes less time than going somewhere else to get what I need

Edit:
But if I have consistently bad experiences at a store, I will stop shopping there even if the prices are the lowest. Walmart for instance.

I was at Sams Club a few weeks back and was just getting 2 gallons of milk and a container of lemonade. Walked up to the front and every register that was open (which was less than half of them) had 5-6 people in line who all had heaping carts full of stuff.

I went up to the customer service counter to have them ring me up since I was told to do that previously and they told me they wouldn't help me and I'd have to go back and wait in line.

I left my stuff on the counter and went to the local grocery store. Haven't been back to Sams since.

IMHO Sams club is the worst at getting people out of their stores. THe one by me (Waukesha, WI) always has people waiting in line back in the clothing section because the lines are so long they run out of room in the front area. And they never have enough registers open and they have no "Express" type lane for people with just a couple items.

I only leave the house at 3 AM when there's 7 other people awake in my whole town.

traffic isn't caused by bad service and poor planning on the part of someone who theoretically wants my business.

I have put my items down and walked out of many stores because the lines were too long. If they want my money they can provide a decent level of service.

I have found that if I begin complaining about the long lines and lack of service very loudly they will usually open up a register just to get me out of the store. :D

Why do you think you shouldn't have to wait in line like everyone else? They don't have an express line since very few people go there and only buy a few items. The lines always seem to move very fast at Costco, their cashiers remind me of the Soup Nazi.

No need to be a smart ass.

The customer was just making their dissatisfaction at the poor level of sevice offer to them, known. Nothing wrong with that.
