ever get the feeling that you don't fit in?

i get that feeling a lot... the more i see other normal people and what they do/say the more i realize i am so different... sigh...

the fact that i immigrated here and haven't assimilated a lot of the culture only makes it worse

I went to a rap concert once. I really don't fit in with that crowd. No really... I don't.
I am a punk rocker/geek/surfer. I tried to mosh pit but only got dirty looks. I then threw up a rock on sign and people gave me more dirty looks. I tried to crowd surf but only hurt this girl who yelled at me. I didn't fit in.

I grew up in this culture and I *still* don't fit in. And I'm quite happy with that. Not fitting in gives you a lot of opportunities others don't have, or don't see, and then you wind up somewhere different, and they all sit around wondering how you got there. Plus, there's a lot of fun to be had with the other freaks of this world. *high-fives Zenmervolt*

well usually it doens't bother me at all. i like being different and being myself. i have learned a lot of things b/c of some of my personalities and it has helped me sometimes like in my studies.

though sometimes it makes me feel a little bit depressed. doesn't bother me that much though, it's rare.

I don't fit in.

But then I start question whether I just don't want to fit in.

And then I question whether I don't fit in because I question whether I fit in.

And then I question whether my questioning of whether I just don't want to fit in really does show I don't fit in.

😕

There, the immediate sign of a freak - someone who has multiple distinct personalities, knows it, and switches them at will. Let me guess - is one of them very much an observer type of personality, where you watch everybody else and consciously observe the dynamics going on?

Woo hoo!!!

I have felt like that all my life - I have never felt like I "fit in", even with those friends I consider closest to me. My life experience and philosophical leanings are either different or so far tweaked that the majority of people I know really don't know what to say to me. There are probably 5 to 10 people I feel truly comfortable around, and as far as I know, I will continue like that for most of my life.

After a while, you accept it, and start to explore it. It is quite fun, once you become accustomed.

Just have another beer.

what do you mean by fitting in? i don't know anyone like me, but i don't feel like i'm a foreigner or something... i have plenty of friends... they're all different from me, but that's okay, we have fun and joke around while we're together which is all that matters...

Surprisingly, no. Amazing, isn't it?

Just be true to yourself and do what you like to do. All is good.
<--- hands over a cold beer.

Damn, I do that. Have you ever had success stopping it?

It's not healthy for me personally. Makes me very cynical and paranoid. Won't trust anyone.

I constantly watch people and see how they react to things, so I can see how they really feel beond the surface level. I of course modify my behavior to elicit the response I want, almost like manipulation.

You'd think, wouldn't you? Everyone does it naturally, to some extent, but if you do it deliberately and consciously, on a fairly regular basis, and your hypotheses tend to bear out correctly, then I'd say you're unique. Just a warning, this can be a really frustrating ability in a romantic relationship, because your S.O. may not get stuff that just should be obvious! 🙂
