...when you finally get a chance to look at photos you took months ago (three months ago in my case) and find something like this...

Snow-covered church in a field near the Neuschwanstein castle in Bayern, Deutschland.

In a good way, that looks really fake. I don't know how to explain it, but it looks serene in a magical way.
Nice shot.

I upped the brightness and contrast by 10 points each and added some yellow/red saturation, but otherwise it's the original pic :)

I thought the same thing. Did you sharpen at all (or use in-camera sharpening)?

It's a very nice image.

Yes, also a little USM.

The "serene" is what I wanted to extract. The church sat between a snowy, white field and a misty, white sky. The church sort of filled the void. I just wanted to amplify that.

I guess it depends on what you want the focus to be. I took another look on my main monitor (was looking on my laptop), and there's too much sky, though that might what you intended based on what you wrote. However, I took the liberty of cropping a bit to focus on the church, and it looked pretty good to me, assuming you want to focus on the church (I cropped the right side tree mostly out, kept some to frame that side, which puts the church farther to the right; cut out the sky above the spire).

Just a thought. We haven't had any snow around here for me to photograph. It's all melted within the next day or been rained on and dripped off the trees.
