Ever get depressed because your job limits your social life?

Obviously this is probably way more true for some of the older crowd, but i've been workin full time since january. I've missed so many opportunities to do fun stuff with all kinds of friends. Trips, sporting events, missin the ribfest tonight in chicago. I guess i dont really get depressed about it, but it kinda sucks being old (well in a sense) when all my friends get to be 19.

If my kid was a supergenious, i'd never try to push him/her ahead. If it happened, it happened.... but no push.
 
Since I always worked in either Field Engineering/Support and the like or later outside sales, I used to have a poor social life due to leaving home Sunday night and arriving back Friday Eve/Saturday morning.

I like to feel I made up for it by being retired at age 46 by the money I made by my sacrificing till then and having the rest of my life to myself.

PS: Nefrodite, ""Striking it rich"" usually means working your ass off and sacrificing now for later, not waiting for a windfall.
 
well.. the money im making now aint gonna get me retired... but.. i got a HUGE foot in the door now.. im going to school/working at the same time.. after 4 years.. i'll have all knids of experience and a degree.. btw, i already got a decent experience base.. and i guess i'll have some fun at school 😛 just this summer really sucks

sure it does... hed be well into the working world during his prime! not saying im a genious at all.. i just followed a different path then most of my friends.. so we're kinda off

grad school. btw, the child geniuses i know, are friends with other child geniuses. most of them plan on doing research and other such academia.

well i think some amount of pushing is acceptable. i mean, as a parent, it's part of your job to guide your child to avenues of success. obviously if the child is not a genius and you keep on yelling at him to be one, that's not good. but there is a difference between being overly pushy and just keeping your child on track.

damn you beat me. last week i put in 75 hours at 3 jobs. it sucks being 20 with no social life. this is one reason why i sorta excited to go back to school... to rest.

i'm usually gone from 7:30 - 9:00 or 9:30 after i get out of my part-time jobs in the afternoon, by then i just want to sleep.

 
When I worked in a restaurant (see nick) it was a real drag. How many Friday/Saturdays did I get off work per year? maybe 4... max.
