i went to buy my northface jacket tonight which happened to be $300. so i went to the register to purchase it, and the moment i reached for my credit card, another salesman confronted me. He asked me "hey, you're filipino right?" to which i answered "yes". So he then said "yeah i thought so, take an extra 30% off [talking to the lady working the cash register]".. so i was like woot. so instead of paying about $320, i ending up paying about $230. woot again.. heh

*forgot to mention he too was filipino.**

Yes, but it still doesn't beat people getting a discount for being quick with their fingers ;)

I kid, I kid... but usually it's small shop-owners who give discounts to people they know not necessarily because of their ethnicity.

I can just imagine my being in line somewhere, and while paying for stuff: "Hey, you're white, right? Here's an extra 30% off!" Just imagine the reaction of the black person in line behind me.

Not necessarily racist... he could just be happy to see somebody that rare. I can see that happening with flippinos. My parents do that to white people at their asian store. There's so few white people that goes there, that when they do, my mom gets excited and gives them deals.

That pretty much sums it up. And who buys a $320 jacket anyways?

i dunno, maybe it happens with just me (or with filipino's in general?).. but whenever i go to any shop and confront another filipino i always get a discount, or something free.. for instance, the other day i went to the bakery, and a filipino happened to be working, and she gave me some free bread.. heh.. woot..

lol, i try to explain that to my wife whenever she sees a "sale".

An item worth $15 which is $55 marked down to $35 is not a deal.

No, but I hang out with a Bosnian guy that can seemingly pick out another Bosnian from 100 yards away. It's like gaydar or something. He strikes up a conversation about "the homeland", and next thing you know he's getting stuff discounted or free (he usually pulls this in bar or club type setting).

you can get something on par with TNF from columbia for half of that price. $300 for a jacket is a rip off

I get a discount at Pizza Hut for being white.

My "overcharge yes, discount no" post was in response to the question posed on the topic.

But yes $300 for a jacket is expensive but he's paying for the brand, not the quality.

There was this SNL skit with Eddy Murphy pretended to be a white person to see how white people treated one another.

From my experiences, I know a lot of people don't buy northface for the quality, they buy it only for the brand name. There are a ton of jackets at equal or greater quality with a lower price. I own a northface backpack just cuz everyone had one... conformity ftl. :(

Thats not comformity, thats materialism. Screw both jackets, go to Walmart and get one for $30 and it'll last just as long. Then spend the rest on something you use, instead of show off.
