I've seen it. It's more visible under headlights, but you can see it. I didn't realize what I was looking at until it was too late though. I woke everyone in the car up with that little display.

Yeah, I guess now that I think about it, I've seen deer blood spatter all over the road. The deer was like hamburger. :Q It got hit by a bigrig. Ouch.

Could have been an accident where a car's radiator ended up draining all over the place... or their oil pan, or brake fluid. They put stuff down on the road (sorta like kitty litter) to dry it up. Even after they take it off it's still a little discoloured.
