Ever been to a Demolition Derby?

I saw the last race in a demo tonight when I picked my daughter up at the fair.
It was well worth the 1/2 hour.
Any of you guys ever seen a Demolition Derby?
Ever build a car and run one?

i've been to many. i've been on a few pit crews which amounted to swinging a sledge hammer a bit and pounding some of the body away from the tires etc. my uncle was a great demo derby guy, and actually my dad won one once. there was a big one nearby recently. good entertainment if you can get a good seat, ie. in the back of a pickup that gets there before the crowds (ringside).

My uncle used to race. I would count laps for him at enduros and get free tickets to the track to watch stuff.

Yes. A couple weeks ago my brother ran a car in one on a whim...and won his heat. Recieved a nearly two foot tall trophy and $125.

It was 100% more fun than I expected. The sound alone is incredible.

We used to get a powerful drunk on, gather up a car, get it ready and hit the demo. The whole process took about two kegs.
You weren't allowed to stink of beer at the demo or you couldn't race or pit. No one seemed to care if you were smoked beyond comprehension, so it worked out pretty well. 🙂

Yep. When I was younger.

Those were the days.

Was Islip Speedway on Long Island, now an Industrial Park.

Used to take old station wagons, impalas etc and try and be the last car rolling.

Motors always seized up on me, didn't have these fancy polymers that can run without oil back then.

It was a lot of fun.

You haven't lived until you've been to a COMBINE DERBY

I too have been to a combine derby, at a county fair in Illinois. That is some crazy stuff.
