Ever been scammed?

Have you ever been scammed? Whether it be a forum trade/sale, a con man, or something like that..have you even been scammed?

I just found all my old documentation for a scam that happened on a forum a while ago. It was crazy.

I sold a $300 item on eBay and the buyer paid with Paypal. A week later, the buyer left me positive feedback on eBay saying he got the item and was happy. Three weeks later, the buyer filed a complaint with Paypal saying he never got the item. I responded to the complaint with my tracking number for the item. He responded by saying he received a box full of newspapers (to account for the weight on the tracking slip). Despite his positive feedback on eBay and my tracking number, Paypal still removed money from my account and paid him back.

On ebay but in the end I lost only about $10 shipping something back. I did get scammed out of $500 by a stealership. I didn't know better at the time and fell for the "Oops, that price we quoted you before you just spent 2 days driving the car we didn't realize we weren't gonna make money so we gotta raise it by $500". I ate that up like a chump. Won't happen again.

$300

Someone hacked into this woman's paypal account. I sent the money, it was verified so I thought it was good but never got sent the stuff. Filed a dispute through paypal and never got one cent back. The person that hacked the paypal account drained it of all the money and since they said the account had no money that there was nothing they could do to even give me a portion back. This was in 06 and have never bought anything using paypal since. F them.

Paypal really needs to be investigated by the BBB or something. They seem like one huge scam to me in general.

It's impossible to get money back when sent to paypal. Oh, I forgot I did get scammed on paypal once but I got it back because I paid with credit and disputed it with my CC company. That is the only way to do it. It's also why I don't keep a paypal balance. If I want to pay something and I have a balance they go from that first. It's important to only ever pay on paypal FROM a credit card so that it can be disputed.

I had an Ebayer get me for $70 for a case of MREs once. I had bought from him before without issue, and then he suddenly stopped shipping to a bunch of people. I got my money back from Paypal, so it wasn't a huge deal, but it was still lame.

Almost.

I bought some Logitech z-5500s from craigslist. I demoed them and everything seemed to work fine, so I paid and everything was cool. I hooked them up again at home, listened for a few minutes and noticed that the front left channel would fade and return after about 10 minutes of playing, finally just shuting off entirely.

While I was devising a plot for revenge, I figured I'd call Logitech and see what they could do for me.. after a wee little bit of social engineering I was able to secure myself a full warranty replacement free of charge.

Not too bad. Worst time was when my mother was in intensive care and this lady came in the waiting room crying. She was there for several minutes and then somehow started to tell us her mother was there because she had a stroke (or heart attack, can't remember now). Anyway, after about 10 minutes she mentioned how hungry she was and me and my father both gave her all the cash we had in our pockets. Only about $10 or so. she left and we never saw her again. We were there for 11 days and either my father, my brother or myself were in the waiting room the entire time.

Years ago when the PS2 first came out I bought one on ebay. Think it was 350 or so dollars paid the guy and never got the PS2. Did get about half my money back from ebays fraud protection thingy but thats it.

Yeah. Someone on here a few years back (scammed a bunch of people, although I did end up getting my money back). Also, freshman year of college I got hit by one of those assholes selling magazines.

yeah, ebay

Bought a CPU, seller never shipped. Filed a complaint with the FBI and got a handwritten apology and USPS MO back about a year later when he was arrested for federal fraud.

Never, but I avoid putting myself in situations where I could get scammed. I've bought/sold stuff on ebay a few times and I usually can't sleep until the transaction is done. Can't trust anyone these days.

By a dentist once. He actually did great work, but never sent me the difference when my insurance company paid him for half the procedure.

Otherwise, not really. I don't use Paypal - too many horror stories and really needs to be regulated like a bank.

When I graduated from college, I paid a firm that was listed in the classified ads to help me find a job. I've learned a lifelong lesson from that one. Slick talking dudes on the phone talked me right into giving them my money (what little I had) and they would land me a class A job. LOL....sucker (me).

We're born to trust. Only when burned can we truly internalize the lesson that there are real fvcktards out there.

Oh I forgot another, I was scammed out of $2.70 for some guy looking for bus money. I hope that sh*t got run over by a bus.

Yeah, I got scammed quite a few times in Diablo 2... :/ Shit sucks, bro. Luckily, I've become smurtur. 😀

I won a large CRT monitor back in 2000 on eBay. Paid the guy with a money order. When the monitor came, it was DOA. Guy never responded to any of my e-mails. eBay wasn't what it is today.

LOL that reminds me of the people who have been scammed in UO. There's this "fancy" trick where the scammer will put the item to be traded in the trade window, the victim will put their item, then the trader will close the window and reopen with an item that looks the same but is low end saying something like "crap closed the window by accident!" but the victim may not be smart enough to check the item again, and accept the trade.

As the owner of a shard I've lost track of the number of times people come crying to me after they've been scammed. "Can you do a shard revert, please?"

Yeah, I'm going to revert the entire shard because one player was too stupid to avoid a scam. 😛
